Sync Ride Data Directly to Apple Health
AnsweredCurrently to sync workouts with Apple Health I sync my rides to Strava and then the Strava App app on my iPhone syncs to Apple Heath. This works except Strava does not sync heart rate data unless the workout was recorded with Strava app.
I do wear a HR strap to record heart rate with the K2 and confirmed when viewing the ride in Training Peaks.
Are there plans to allow syncing rides directly to Apple Health through the HealthKit?

I’m pretty sure the only way to get data into Apple Health requires an iOS client to pass .fit data via the HealthKit SDK. To your point. Assuming I am correct, then Hammerhead would need to develop an iOS client to get that data directly into Health app, otherwise rely upon another app that supports HealthKit to do so. I personally don’t think a third party developer would go out of their way to explicitly suppress certain elements contained in the lift file from passing into another app.
Personally, I don’t see a need for a Hammerhead native iOS app. But that’s just me. I’d rather them continue to focus on device specific improvements as opposed to getting distracted by a native client that I’m unclear would be that viable. I’m happy I don’t have to deal with the Garmin client app anymore. -
the info from karoo would not go as a workout in apple health. apple is really strict what apps do that. strava is one of the few. that will go towards a workout. garmin is the same. the best way to do it is use strava and connect that to apple heath then your workouts will go onto apple health. if you have a apple watch or such it is more work to get credit from strava over apple watch

The idea is not to sync all Hammerhead data into Apple Health it is the relevant data so we as users don't have to do the workarounds through Strava.
I can imagine iOS users are a huge chunk of the user base just on general iOS vs Android market share in many countries and continuing to point users to 3rd party workarounds puts people in the position of going to other platforms.

There is an app called FitnessSyncer that can pull your data from various sources and add it to Apple Health in the correct format. If they can do it then Hammerhead can do it :). FitnessSyncer does exist as an option but it's a huge pain to have to manually run this sync after every ride and sometimes it doesn't work.

but its apple that is the issue as they don't allow most apps to input data to apple health. I mean garmin will sync with apple health but the data does not really do anything. it did not show up as a cycle ride only if I use strava data does it actually show up as a workout with that info.even then all the data does not really show up. even with strava it may take days for the data to sync unless you open strava every time. like if you don't use strava at best you will get workout minutes bu thats it. it wont show workouts or cycling distance. You can see the difference between garmin connect and strava. look a the bottom.

@Steve Knight, yeah exactly. That's why I've had to use Fitness Syncer. But looking through Apples APIs app developers do have the ability to push full data correctly (hence why Fitness Syncer can do it fine). Garmin and Strave don't have a huge incentive to push the full data to a centralized platform or it would make it extremely easy for users to leave their platform. :) the $ always wins :)

@Steve Knight. Syncing my hammerhead rides with strava and then strava syncing my workouts to apple health worked until this past Sunday, but strava has stopped this now unless the ride was actually recorded by the strava app. More on this here:

mine stopped Tuesday and when I saw the post here I realized it was strava doing it on purpose. recording with strava is so much less accurate and they wont let you use bluetooth and ant+ info. apple is super restrictive on what apps can write workouts too there are maybe 5 apps that can do it. plus if you have an apple watch that info will be used first unless you change the source for the info.

You guys can try an app called RunGap. I have been using it since tuesday and it works great. You can even sync it with the Hammerhead account, but since HH does not calculate calories I connected it to Strava and it works great. Finally I have full data with Apple Health, with calories, proper heart rate and even a GPS track (something that Strava could not implement properly for years now).
I know it is another app and a workaround, but until HH make its own app for iOS I found it to be the best solution.
Also I pissed at Strava for telling me what I can and what I cannot do with my data. I stopped paying for Strava year ago becouse of another dirty move by them and now I really consider the RWGPS as my main hub for cycling activities (Strava is still fine for social aspect, challenges etc.).

Consider me one more vote here for direct syncing to Hammerhead to Apple Health now that Strava killed off the workaround of Hammerhead to Strava to Apple Health. I'm still holding out hope that Strava is getting a loud enough backlash to that move that they reverse course. I just canceled my premium subscription with them and let them know about it on Twitter and via a support ticket. I hope that resonates, but in the event they don't I'd like to see a direct Hammerhead to Apple Health sync option.
I will also be trying out RunGap as well. I saw them noted in a few different Twitter posts and again here from Ornaled. How much sudden attention are they getting right now, right?

I canceled both my wife's and my sub today to Strava. I was thinking of using rungap also, but I'm hoping Strava reverses course quickly or that Hammerhead can somehow profit from this and implement something.
I would love to see somebody like hammerhead try and do more with their own dashboard and perhaps even allow outsiders to post data in there... might even drive some sales of hardware and drive people away from Garmin.

I'm on board with this. Although, I'll continue to use Strava, it is incredibly annoying that they've blocked the data from being moved to Apple Health. Very very frustrating.
I believe Wahoo allows you to sync workouts directly from their app to Apple Health, I use the Wahoo Rival for syncing all runs/walks. -
@Steve Knight, Maybe they figured they could save a bit on data storage costs or perhaps even have some long term goal of releasing their own hardware to record rides and runs?
Likely though that it was just causing them support headaches trying to get people to get the stuff connected since it involves 3rd party hardware /software library support, and maybe even licensing costs paid to ANT (which is really Garmin anyway IIRC).
I can speak from experience on supporting Zwift with my wife/ her friends issues, and other friends that sensors can be a real headache.

no matter what there are only maybe 5 apps that can put your workout into heath as a source of exercise. this threw me off for years as my garmin rides would show up under workout but they did not count as exercise and did not get processed by health. that changed when I found strava could. but even then apple watch would override strava unless you worked hard to set things up so strava was read first. no clue why so few apps can write workouts.
