Which charger for Karoo 2?
AnsweredI've read the instructions which charger to be used. Unfortunately both of my chargers for my smartphones aren't in the list as USB-IF compliant.
Can you tell me if one of the two chargers (see pics)
can be used for the Karoo 2?

Hey John.
Karoo 2 does not support charging over 5V. It supports up to 2.5A at 5V (12W). I see both these charger adapters have the output specification stating the output is 2A at 5V. I am sure this can be used for the charging Karoo 2. But please use the charging cable that was shipped along with the Karoo 2 unit.

I asked a similar question a while ago in this topic but never got a reply:

My issue with the charging cable that was supplied with the Karoo is that it will not fit when the Karoo 2 is on the mount due to the limited space between the front of the stem and the charging port of the Karoo 2. I bought a Ugreen 90 degree USB-C to USB-C charging cable off Amazon which works pretty well and supports up to 60W charging.
Surely the important thing is what you plug the charging cable into rather than the cable itself? I would suggest it's more important to not plug it into a charger that charges at > 12W or 2.5A at 5V.
Ultimately, I'm looking for a charging solution I can plug the Karoo 2 and my lights into to charge as fast as possible. Charging the Karoo 2 via my desktop Thunderbolt USB-C dock is too slow (1.5A at 5V).

Surely, since the voltage is held constant (5V), the only factor that determines current draw is the load the device places on the charger. Thus, the device will only draw as much current as it needs and no more which is 5V at 2.5amps at the very most (12W) dropping to 5V at 1.25A after 30% of charge (6.5W). So you only need to ensure that the charger can drop to as low as 1.25A rather than anything else if you're worried about protecting and prolonging the lift of the battery!
Does seem a bit odd that faster charging isn't supported on a device with a USB C connection though, and has to rely on old and really slow USB-A standards! I guess that's for Karoo 3 then...
