Battery life Karoo 1 vs Karoo 2
AnsweredI received Karoo 2 unit, I still have my Karoo 1 so I mounted both on the bike for testing. The first results are disappointing on the battery life on Karoo 2, it's even worse than the Karoo 1 ?!
Last ride: both on full charge, same settings, data screen etc. and after ~3h ride, Karoo 2 had 8-9% less battery than Karoo 1.
What are your opinions and thoughts about the battery and the comparison to the older model? Something is wrong with my device, or actually the battery is even worse/similar than Karoo1? For me, the main reason for upgrade Karoo 1 was the battery, so at the moment I don't see much reason why I shouldn't give Karoo 2 back and stay with Karoo 1.
Else, I'm aware Karoo 1 shows the battery wrong sometimes, on 50-100% is slowly losing points, but the less battery, the faster it runs out, especially the last 20%. So looking at the whole battery life, Karoo 2 should probably last longer, but after all it doesn't look like an upgrade.
other differences in data:
-calculated Ascent is quite a lot bigger in Karoo 2
-Avg Speed, ride time, kilometers, this small differences it seems that result from auto pause. In Karoo 2 auto pause is much more responsive, for example when I walk with bike on ice/big snow, Karoo 2 recorded it, Karoo 1 was still on pause mode.
ps. That glitch on historical elevation graph It was not the first time for me, but it is only graphic and has no effect on the data.

Yes, at present I am a bit disappointed, the K2 battery is certainly depleting faster than my 3 year K1 according to screen stat, Sundays ride was over 12% with screen on 0% brightness, Ant+ HR connected and following route. The previous ride which was a shorter night ride was nearer 20% per hour with about 30% brightness, HR but no route. I'm wondering if the smaller battery is more impacted with lower temperatures than the K1. However like you have mentioned I could never trust the K1 under 40%, used to rapidly tank. It's even had the battery percentage rapidly decline on charge! so always charged above 50% when out on a ride.
I have deleted all the profiles that imported from the K1 upon set up which was suggested as an issue on the forums.
At present it's looking like all my weekend summer rides will still need a charge at the cafe with a battery pack, assuming lock down lifts!
I'm happier with the ascent results on the K2, my K1 always used to be 20% down compared to strava maps and garmins and 30% compared to wahoo's, therefore always had to correct elevation after every ride. I used to go up slight inclines and over canal bridges and the K1 never used to register, the K2 seems more reactive like my previous garmin.

First two times using the Karoo 2, I also noticed high battery usage. The third time, however, it seems to be a lot better (and I have a 4G SIM in it). During a cold (~0 C) ride, I lost only 14% during a 2-hr ride. Even though I had the backlight set to the lowest setting (that still seems plenty), I woke up the screen every few minutes to check the data screen and the map. That means it will last through all but the craziest ultra-rides in which case you probably want a dynamo hub to charge it.
The battery saving option makes a big difference. It only turns on the screen when you need to make a turn, saving lots of battery.

My rides are more touristic & exploration, so detailed route and more map usage is essential for me. But on the other hand, I don't use any sensors, phone connection, so ANT, bluetooth, simcard, wifi was off.
-pared ANT+ sensors: LOW (0)
-paired bluetooth sensors: LOW (0)
-paired phone: LOW (no)
-sim: LOW (no)
-Live track: LOW (no)
-brightness: HIGH
-notification: LOW
-user interface interaction per hour: HIGH
-Main data page: 5 data without graph
-datafield setup: main + two screen above in photo + upcoming elevation graph with 2 data
-navigation a route: HIGH
-temperature: -4
(big popup notification for navigation, and street names off, only arrow with always on option)

In the end Karoo 2 work longer by 1h20m (same settings, same routes etc.) Up to 30% went almost evenly, but below 30% Karoo 1 started to lose battery very VERY quickly. But in the end, the last 1% percent was enough for over an hour... On the first photo 12:50 - 1%, next 14:10 still 1% without recharging (and turn off moment later).
Now I'm torn at what to do, take karoo2 or stay with karoo1... It doesn't look like a big upgrade for the price you have to pay extra for K2 :/ On the other hand this issue with battery % errors in K1 is very annoying.
