Karoo 2 or Garmin 830
AnsweredI have the Karoo1 and I'm currently considering a Karoo2 or Garmin 830. The only positive I can see for the 830 is the way it pops up a map on a data screen when a turn is approaching rather than just an icon and a road name. I know this feature has been talked about - is there any indication that it could be on a roadmap for the Karoo2?
Garmin ClimbPro is also cool, but the map popup would be my #1 feature request.

I'd personally go with the Garmin 830 if I could only have one.
Big point against the K2 is lack of adaptive brightness. This is an issue in my opinion for changing light conditions (ie. tunnel, trail with varying levels of cover, etc.) and it also it can't adjust any ANT+ connected lights based on lighting conditions. The hardware does not even exist on the K2 devices.
Garmin is more stable too (who'd thought that'd ever be said?!) and so if you've got one computer that you just want to work... it makes more sense.

If you have the K1 already, and looking for a second one I'd go for the Garmin. As Judah says is more stable and offer much more features.
I have the K2 and the Edge 530 and I'm strongly considering returning the K2 withing the 45 days window. I think it has huge potential but I'm not keen to be a beta tester for a device I paid £350 for.

I'm a little on the fence. Bought Garmin 830 earlier and was satisfied with it (after initial steep learning curve when it comes to Garmin's menu layout - used Wahoo Bolt earlier). Untill I first took it out for a ride outside in a sunny weather - for me screen visibility of 830 in direct sunlight is so bad it almost renders the device useless when navigating a map (despite using 100% backlight).
So I started searching for an alternative and bought Karoo 2. So far so good, Garmin 830 has much more features but I could live without them (core functionality of Karoo 2 is exactly what I need). But as was stated above - Garmin seems more "stable" and battery life is far superior. Personally I'm holding back with final decision between staying with Edge 830 or Karoo 2 until I have an opportunity to take the Karoo 2 for a ride outside in suny weather to check visibility in direct sunlight (hopefully before 45 days pass). If it passes the test of screen visibility I think I will choose Karoo 2 - battery life is "just" enough for me (around 10 hours) and screen size / crispness / responsiveness / maps quality is IMHO better than Edge 830 (and those are my priorities).
EDIT: If Hammerhead keeps pushing out updates on a regular basis (not only bug fixes but also release some new features) I think Karoo 2 really has potential to be a great device. It's biggest problem seems to be "mediocre" battery life, mostly everything else out can be ironed out in the end with software updates

I think this has been an especially rocky patch for Hammerhead with regards their software updates. In all the time I've been using a Karoo 1, I don't remember there being quite so many issues as there are at the moment. This could also be a side effect of more users reporting more issues, but I doubt it.
Thankfully, none of my apps have crashed this week but I am still experiencing issues connecting Bluetooth Audio (another known issue) and I'm very much looking forward to tomorrow's software update. It's a neat device with a decent screen, and I particularly like the cloud architecture where user preferences and routes are stored in the cloud and synced to the Karoo. Yes, battery life could be better but it's not really a problem for me to carry a little USB power bank around with me in my frame bag. I'm excited for what's coming next...

Hi all guys. I'm a 830 possessor (previously I had 520 and 820, but I have also a 130 ad forklift). 830 Is a very good unit, but I send it for the second time to the assistence because of a shrouds problem at display. The first time Garmin replace it completely, but within less than a year the shroud return. Now i'm waiting for (i hope) a new replacement of unit, but warranty is close to expiry (july 2021) and i'm thinking to sell it and buy a new gps.
I knew hammehead and karoo1 and now i read about karoo2, that is a lot promising, but now i read this post and many doubts come to me.
At the end 830 work properly for all I need (above all structured workout and power data analisys, with the possibility of customization of workout data page), and the only problem I found was the shroud of display.
Advice? thanks
