    Hi All,

We have an update to share with you!

We’ve improved the way Dashboard allows you to edit imported routes. Now, you can add waypoints and Pins without changing the route at all, and any edits to a route will only happen between consecutive waypoints, making it easier to adjust your routes in our Dashboard.

This was released in the recent Software Update!

    Thank you!

I tried to recreate your issue, as I also like the dashboard route builder (for creating basic routes).
I can't reproduce it. When I change the start / end by dragging it to another location, only the very first / last part of the route will change.

Perhaps your route was not created in the Hammerhead dashboard, but made with another tool? In that case changing the route may result in re-routing using Hammerhead's logic I suppose.

Hi, thanks for the support. Downloaded and imported this route, did not create this myself. So it makes sense, Hammerhead re-routes this. Too bad though...

Perhaps the amount of re-routing can be limited by switching to gravel riding / mtb in the lower part of the screen. As in your case the re-routing seems to prefer roads, switching the riding profile may have a better result.

I'm always on gravel riding, so I tried that option, without result...

    Hi all,

It appears the route you've imported may have been created using a ride which incorporates a few undefined route segments. For example, one particular section crosses a waterway using a footpath. When changing the start location it then attempts to correct this.

There is no fix for this at the moment but we will have a workaround soon with plans to offer freehand route creating features.

    Thanks!

I'm having exactly the same problem, not only when changing or creating a route but also when I'm riding wrong: the red line to go back to the route is far from the shortest way, see two examples:

I really want that freehand.  It is annoying when the route creator refuses to recognize bike paths I use every day, and gravel paths that appear in the map!!  Below is an example from one of my gravel routes (I've tried mountain bike too). The route creator thinks the best way between 2 points is a half mile detour and a bunch of climbing instead of a 20 yard level gravel path. It's not all bad if you are training for a big race or something. In this case it is routing me out to Novelty Hill Road - where the traffic is whizzing along at 50... and I somehow have to negotiate a left turn onto 224th across 2 lanes of traffic, while going up an 8% hill (no sidewalks and minimal shoulder).... UGH.

I fully agree we need a freehand mode, but in this case you may be able to solve the root cause of this routing problem. As you may know HH is using OpenStreetMap data. You can edit these maps yourself.

I could not find the location in OSM. If you check yourself, you can use the [edit] button to check if you see anything out of the ordinary with any of these paths. The list of parameters can be quite confusing, but you may be able to spot a difference causing this routing issue.

Unfortunately an OSM change isn't active in HH immediately. You'll have to wait until a future map update of HH...

I requested a freehand option when I first had the Karoo three years ago, as did others.  I never could understand why this wasn’t possible when RideWithGPS had the option, but I guess there was big technical hurdle.  I only use the Dashboard route creation if I have something very simple, otherwise I stick with RWGPS and sync the route.

The HH route generation is odd too.  There is a small section of a national bike route near me which was diverted several years ago.  OSM cycle shows it correctly (as it is now), the Dashboard map and the Karoo map show it identified correctly, but the Dashboard and Karoo refuse to route that way and revert to routing on the long non-existent path.  RWGPS routes correctly.  I don’t understand this shortcoming of the HH system either.
