Sadly saying goodbye
AnsweredShort but intense.
I've followed these devices since HH launched the K1. Waited until recently to make up my mind and try the K2.
Beautiful, light, modern, but:
- maps are useless for offroad activities (mountain bike)
- in the hope that maps get better in the future or we are able to load our own maps, one needs to sideload other apps to cover that gap. Not having google play services limits more than i thought what apps you can install.
- accuracy. I could live without it, but i was promised the k2 supported Galileo. I've learned now that HH chose a chip that does not support Galileo.
Enjoy your devices, K2 seems quite okay for roadies and workouts but not for offriders.

Hey Antonio.
Firstly, I am happy to hear from our early followers. Sorry to hear that you did not find Karoo 2 up to your expectation. I apologize for that and would like to address your points here.
- maps on Karoo 2 not for offroaders - We support the maps that can be used for road-riding or off-roading. I am sure this article will help you understand the map styles that Karoo 2 uses. However, I would be curious to know what more features you would like with regards to the maps for off-roading.
- Sideloading the apps - Frankly, we would not recommend you to sideload the apps as they would consume the memory and may slow down your unit. However, at customers' request, we have introduced an app store to ensure our customers should not miss out on riding apps if they feel like customizing their experience. However, we are working on the app store and there may be more apps coming soon!
- GPS accuracy - Currently, we do not have Gallileo on the Karoo 2 unit as we see not a huge discrepancy in the accuracy with the availability of Galileo on the unit. I can not commit to this being implemented immediately. But, yes, when it will we will certainly have an article up on our blog. Besides, our Hardware team has already taken this into account.
I really appreciate you for sharing your thoughts and experience for Karoo 2. We believe in the improvement and development of our Product over time and we certainly will go ahead with the implementation of many new features on the unit.
Our aspiration is to keep you as one of our most valued customers, and we hope to serve you better in subsequent times.

Hello Abhishek,
thanks for your reply.
1) maps, you can see my suggestions in this other post: https://support.hammerhead.io/hc/en-us/community/posts/1260801900349-Raster-maps-contour-lines
You'll see a series of screenshots)
a) the karoo (almost blank)
b) komoot map (quite better but still missing a river and two streams)
c and d) raster maps (probably not in your plans but that would increase the number of sources greatly)
e) wikiloc (very clear info displayed, not in that screenshot, but you often see names of peaks, names of isolated buildings...)
f) garmin (same as wikiloc, a bit better)
All i can say about the karoo's map is that it looks like empty compared to others.
I probably did not choose the best map section to make a comparison but believe me, when i dragged the map in the karoo and compared it to what i saw in my phone with other apps... karoo's is by far the poorest. Perhaps Berlin is well mapped, but not the offroad places i usually go.
2) sideloading: i understand we don't wanna fill up our karoo with apps but... let users decide if they wanna compromise storage and battery with them. In my case i needed wikiloc, twonav, telegram and onesync, i was able to install only twonav and telegram. I don't think your market can offer the wide variety of apps that we can find in play. Every person has a fav app for whatever reasons which most likely will never be in the karoo's market.
3) I may be wrong, but all info sources i've checked state that the Qualcomm MSM8909 (snapdragon 210) does not support Galileo, nothing can be done from a software approach if the hardware does not support it.
Thank you for your 45 days policy. Who knows, perhaps a karoo 3 will fit my needs ;-)
