K2 Suggestion - speaker improvements for TBT navigation
Hello,
I can remember that the lacking of a speaker was a point of criticism of the Karoo 1. Now there is a speaker (that's nice) and I like its notification signal when a junction is coming closer. But I think it could be more helpful:
Right now there is no signal when I'm reaching the turn. You have to look at the device and take away attention from the road. Even if it's just a small portion of time this poses a security risk and could lead to a dangerous situation or an accident (depending on location, road condition and/or traffic) .
So the eyes should stay on the road and not the device. But we still have our ears, so why not use the speaker like ships use their horn?
- One short beep => Turn right
- Two short beeps => Turn left
- Thee short beeps => Missed the turn, turn around
The beeps should have the same frequency (unlike the current notification sound). And it should be an user-definable option on the device so people can enable or disable the feature.
And this acoustic notification should happen three seconds before you have to take the turn. It should be time- not distance-dependent because speed is the key factor. When riding slow it takes more time to travel e.g. 30 meters (~33 yards) than it takes to when coming down a hill with 50 km/h (30 mph).
What do you think about it?
Best Regards
Dirk

I agree the beeper should be used more efficiently, though I'm not a fan of 1/2/3 beeps. As the beeper can beep different tones, a beep-scheme like Wahoo is using could be considered.
- Medium - high => turn right
- Medium - low => turn left
I can't recall the other beeps the Wahoo would do.
