Firmware Roll Back Option
AnsweredThe lengthy list of severe known issues coming along with any new firmware release has prevented me updating my Karoo 2. For that reason, I deactivated the automatic firmware update feature to not participate in the public beta test. Thus, I am stuck at a quite old firmware version, which works at an acceptable state.
However, I am interested to test the latest firmware for light mode feature since the dark mode is hardly to read under the summer sun. Before doing so I would like to ensure that there is a safe way to downgrade the firmware to the version I am currently using. Please advice how this can be done.
Offering a way to roll back to a firmware version that is known on a personal device to work at an acceptable state could be of interest for a lot of users!

Not sure if this is a question or a request as your last paragraph makes it sound like you already know the software cannot be rolled back.
I'm on the latest version and not experiencing any issues, so not sure what you are referring to with lengthy list of severe issues. Two of my cycling friends also have Karoo 2's running latest software again with no software issues.

I'm not having issues with current firmware, no battery drain and most importantly finally stable on ant+
Cannot say the same for previous 3 firmware updates first time stable since mid Feb. That's the problem everyone has different equipment connected giving strange anonymous results.
I would personally love a rollback option as a smaller company its understandable that bugs are going to slip through testing as I'm assuming test candidates are small group but they should offer a rollback escape route until fixed.
Full factory reset after firmware fix to your problem should be mandatory as sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't.(cadence from power meter fix worked on mine didn't on wife's, both identical setups had to factory reset hers) It does not take long to do and would be quicker if Hammerhead cloud stored connected devices.

Hey Ralf,
Thanks for the suggestion here! We appreciate you reaching out.
We do highly recommend keeping the device up to date with the most recent software release as these contain crucial bug fixes & improvements. That said, there are no current plans to implement such requests to remove particular software updates from the device. I will pass the suggestion along!

Hello Dakota,
if you argue that updates solve critical bugs I would expect that sensor drop outs and battery draining issues belong to the past. However, according to customer reports, this does not seem to be the case. So, I wonder which critical bugs you are taking about. To me, runtime and reliable sensor data acquisition are the most important features. No matter what this simply has to work.
I only have HR and Candence senor connected via ANT+, Bluetooth is disabled. 90% of the ride the map is not in foreground while battery draining still is in the range of above 10%/h. This is simply too much. How many of the 4 Cores are needed to simply update my six values on the screen once per second? I think HH would do good bringing the basics to a good end rather than spending time on new features.
Also, quite often in case of problems it is recommended to perform a factory rest. To me an act of desperation rather than understanding the root cause of the problem. When a factory reset shall be carried out, what happens to the profiles? Are those saved in the HH cloud and are pushed to the device during logon after factory reset or do I have to generate these manually each time after a factory reset?

@Ralf if your drain is at 10% per hour .. how many rides do you do that are over 10 hours? Just curious on the rides you take. It seems not everyone has “big battery drain” issues running the same software. So possibly it is a certain combination of options and sensors that is causing the issue.

@Benno: thanks for the hint, I will give it a try
@Gerry: doing rides more than 10h is not the point. It happens extremely seldom. However, often I do rides lasting more than 3h on two consecutive days. And if one forgets to charge the device in between you will not be able to capture the entire ride of the second day. And that is the problem. Have you ever had a look to the battery draining if it runs in idle, doing no capture, screen off simply laying around after a ride? It will drain so much that you are lost if you do not charge the device in between two rides. Significantly more than an Android based Smartphone. That needs to be addressed by HH.

@Ralf, thanks for the reply and information. Forgetting to charge a device, nope as I am blessed with Obsessive Cycling Disorder (OCD) so nothing gets forgotten, trust me. It is both a blessing and a curse but hey between the wheels is where we all want to be every day. I have no doubt that HH will improve battery life if they can, I am a new used and I do like the constant updates to software. The K2 is an impressive bike computer and I look forward to many great rides with this new device. Have a great day.

I have also found that there is excessive battery drain after a ride, when the K2 is sitting on the table. It seems to me that when the GPS "sensor" is on, this high drain occurs even though the unit us not moving. Turn GPS off and the high battery drain stops. I hope HH addresses this issue.
