Well It's working, at least I can upload routes now.

Think that a system cannot depend on a single site, it is necessary that the user can use the device completely even if there is a natural disaster in your headquarters.
There must be communication between my smart phone and the K2 without necessarily having to go through the dashboard, which doesn't really improve anything, because it doesn't even analyze the information from the rides; and to create a route, any other software from other apps is a thousand times better. Versatility is a great virtue for electronic devices today, today they have demonstrated the fragility of the system and the dependence of the device on that system.

Hope to see changes on the next update!

@Robert of course, it won't end the world and we can all survive half a day without a working bike computer. But Hammerhead markets the Karoo 2 as the best bike computer in the world and sells it at a steep price. It is simply bad design if the unit becomes completely useless as soon as a server fails. It also casts a questionable light on the future viability and sustainability of the product. Other manufacturers show that - even if the web servers fail - functional units are still possible. In the Garmin incident, it was still possible to manually upload and download routes without any problems. It was just a little more complicated. But now back to something more pleasant. Have a good trip and enjoy the hopefully nice weather ;-)

rides from yesterday and today are still not uploading to dashboard. I see post by Hammerhead that the issue is solved but what is status of uploading?

I found that I had to log back into my Hammerhead account on the K2 head unit. Once I did that, the ride uploaded.

    @Marco

Is it possible you’re overreacting? Yesterday, I went on a 41 mile ride, came home with Hammerhead dashboard down, I connected the device to my Mac via USB, grabbed the .fit file, and uploaded the data to Strava. There was absolutely no compromise of the Karoo performance during the (relatively) short Hammerhead outage. My GPS route worked flawlessly. All sensors collected data. The files were all on the device.

Again, this is a GPS and not a life critical device. Certainly we want the Dashboard to always work, but Hammerhead can’t be expected to build a system to 99.9999999% durability without passing that cost to the consumer. As for the cost of the GPS itself, compare the features of the Karoo to the upper level Garmin and the Karoo is still worth the price knowing that Garmin has also had some downtime with Garmin Connect. If the price is too high, then maybe the rider should consider a premium phone wireless internet based GPS solution.

There is no perfect solution for this issue that will keep the customer and business happy. From personal experience, I prefer using a device where the manufacturer is engaged with their end-users (Hammerhead)  vs. a big business (Garmin).

Agreed. My assumption is this is a learning experience for HH and some of the loyal customers.

Scroll up. All rides and routes are stored in the device. Links above.

I would just like to give my thanks to HH for fixing - I know it must have been a stressful day.

My feedback on the outage are this.

It's a little frustrating if I can't upload my ride straight away, but it is really not a big deal. I had my ride, I had my fun, uploading a file to show the world immediately isn't the end of the world for me.

On the flip side, once I had bought the K2, I did have concerns over the reliance on a single cloud connection to be able to get a route onto the device. Fortunately, the issue was fixed before my ride today, but last night I was rather worried. If I can't load the route on the K2, there is really is useless.

Please, please, please, give us an alternative method of transferring routes onto the device. Either via a PC, or via connections to other mapping providers (Komoot, RWGPS, Strava etc) or both!

    Thank you!

While I was able to upload a ride today like yesterday of required a reboot on the Karoo. I was not however able to get my route to sync to the Karoo. It’s on my dashboard but not syncing. Tried rebooting before the ride and tried on and off with wifi but no luck.

    @jonathan

did you open the ride on the K2 and click on the Strava or RideWithGPS icon?

I use all the services at the end. I haven’t been able to upload without a restart for a few weeks now.

@Jeffrey W. I can see that you can download a .fit file from the K2 to a PC (I'm really not bothered by this - it can wait a day or two if the service is down). I cannot see anything that describes how to get a route from a PC (or any other provider) to the K2. As far as I have seen, the only method to get a new route onto the K2 is via the dashboard, so if that isn't working, it is game over.  Have I missed something?

I thought the tcx/gpx could be dropped in the /nav folder, but I could be wrong. I'll create a new post.

With this post I say goodbye to the subject, and I really hope that HH makes progress on the firmware that involves a lot of learning from this incident and not just the interface of the strava segments and graphical issues.

This is for all those who, when trying to show their support for HH and not their "anger", judged all of us who think as consumers that we are not satisfied with these types of problems and how to solve them.

For systems engineers and people who work in product design and, who somehow want us to notice that they know more than a simple consumer, you are wrong.
As a consumer, I can demand what has been sold to me, I can also feel disappointed or however I want to feel, and of course I can demand a response tailored to the advertising that convinced me to bet on an emerging brand that promises a potential that It has not yet been shown, and for that we always have to wait for the next update to test it, and it never comes.
About Garmin and Wahoo we know what they are and what they give and when you buy it you know its limitations, its benefits and there is not much else. Take it or leave it.

HH claims to be something that clearly is not yet (the best cycling computer in the world), and we do not know when it will arrive.

There are consumers who remain hopeful and calm because they believe that they have played a trick on the big companies and even feel "cool" for having an alternative brand; and others, like me, who prefer to demand that what has been sold to me be a reality and not a promise for the future.

What is clear and has been demonstrated with this episode is that the hammerhead system is not reliable. I know it may sound harsh, but despite everything, I am part of those who bet on the K2 as soon as it was released.

    Cheers!

Did Dashboard revert back a version behind the scenes?  I was just checking again and see that my route previously added to the dashboard but that did not sync was no longer on the dashboard.  I just added it again as a test and voila it's now synced over to my K2.  It's a day after I did this ride so too late obviously for use this time but sync does seem to be back.

@Ali and @Akhil - can you give us more details on exactly what happened and what has been done to ensure it won't happen again?

Any update on being able to easily pair the Karoo 2 via USB to download rides and upload routes - so the device isn't completely bricked while the dashboard (cloud) is down?

    Thanks so much!

    Hey All,

The dashboard outage was caused by a server issue. This was immediately picked up by our team who dived in to address the issue through Friday night and into Saturday. We have taken lengthy steps to ensure that such an outage is avoided in the future, there is always the small possibility of a breakage across the numerous systems that interact with one and other.

We have also raised this as serious and high-priority feedback to our product team to implement an option on the Karoo to allow offline activity/route upload. You can expect these implementations to be seen on the Karoo soon. It is very hard to put a finger on the timeline at the moment but rest assured it has been taken up as a priority improvement :)
