Incorrect route

I downloaded and added a sportive ride to my dashboard and it loaded onto my head unit correctly. Things then went wrong very quickly...

Firstly it had me turning right out the start when I should have turned left, Breadcrumb route was consistently red, suggesting I was off course...2 miles down the road it went yellow, then red again so I abandoned that ride and returned to the start.. Stopped the ride, saved it and then reloaded it. This time it had me turning left but again the breadcrumb route was consistently red but took me in the right direction having seen it after the ride, however it missed a critical turn so I carried on. Breadcrumb route then went yellow so thought aahh...back on track, eventually realising it was actually taking me home...how on earth does that happen. I then had to reluctantly abandon the ride as things were clearly not right and go back the same way.

I have checked the downloaded route and it is fine so why did my Karoo have an absolute nightmare, it has never done this before and spoilt an excellent ride I was really looking forward to..not a happy bunny and I am 95% certain it was not user error.
