Karoo 2 charging
AnsweredI read the article about charging. https://support.hammerhead.io/hc/en-us/articles/360058770653-Charging-Karoo-2
But why is the unit not like a normal (android) phone when using a specific charger.
I have a fazua 60 bike with 1amp usb-c charge port. That would be great to use to charge the Karoo 2. I tried to use it to charge the Karoo (before reading the article about charging).
I used a good quality USB C-C cable.
It seemd to work. Karoo was charging from 40% to 90% on end of ride. I switched the bike and Karoo off, but led the charging cable connected.
This morning I started a new ride and the Karoo battery was dead. How is that possible? Why can't it just be charged on a simple 1 amp charger?

Hi Pietje,
Sorry to hear about the issue with your Karoo 2 loosing charge when connected over to your Fazua bike. Let me look into this to help you out.
I have created a ticket and have requested some questions to understand and investigate the issue further. Kindly respond over there.
We really appreciate your patience and understanding while we work through this.

I also read the "Charging Karoo 2" article, and I do not understand why we should not use usb-c to usb-c cable for charging. In theory is it possible to raise the charging voltage over 5V on usb-c, but the devices (charger and Karoo) have to communicate each other to accomplish this. You can’t get beyond 5 V with just resistors, you’ll need digital communications over the CC line, using a protocol called USB PD (Power Delivery), which lets a device (Karoo) and a PSU (charger) negotiate power requirements in a featureful way.
I charged my Karoo 2 with my Macbook Pro's usb-c charger and my iPhone's fast usb-c charger without any issue. I do not have any usb-a charger at home.
