Broken mounting base (Garmin adapter)

Anyone any idea why these break off? I am using a number of bikes with different holders.

  I’d say it’s a flaw of the original Garmin design, the tabs are too thin considering the material and intended use. At least the adapter is easy to replace, unlike the corresponding part on most Garmins...

  ...and there is a lanyard! But haven't seen this before with other computers.
