Elevation issue - any updates??
I have one of these Karoos that cannot properly display and record elevation with a SIM card installed and sometimes even when the SIM card is not in.
This was what support said back in April:
"The software team is currently working on a fix to solve the issue with elevation recordings. As it requires extensive testing in different riding conditions, analyzing the test results, and making iterations to the existing fix based on the test results, at this point I do not have an exact timeline to share with you. We appreciate your patience and understanding while we work through this. Please be assured that fixing this issue is one of our top priorities, but it is unfortunate that it is taking more time than we anticipated."
I mean you must have some kind of an update, right?
Essentially, I have a bike computer that cannot properly display elevation data during a ride what is super annoying - in particular when you are in the mountains.
This is a basic functionality. At least, why not switch to GPS-elevation data for the time being?
Thanks, Felix

Hi Marie. My replacement unit did have the same issue. I was getting 400% the normal elevation result. Only once I used the Karoo mount did I start getting 50% more elevation. It’s still not acceptable but better than nothing. I’ll probably just exchange it one or two more times until I get a working unit. It only took 2.5 weeks turnaround and was painless. So I would do the exchange at least once as you get a brand new unit. In the mean time I hope some software update fixes it but I have my doubts.

I removed the SIM card from my Karoo and it has fixed the elevation issue. I've been riding on the same surface, same bike. The elevations with the SIM in were off by a lot, usually by several hundred percent. Here are my last 5 rides before the SIM removal, with Strava corrected elevation for a comparison:
Length / Karoo elev. / Strava elev.:
66.4 km / 7,963 m / 1,240 m
24.6 km / 1,023 m / 499 m
14.1 km / 1,079 m / 185 m
92.9 km / 5,804 m / 1,844 m
32.5 km / 2,030 m / 656 mSince the SIM removal 10 days ago, the elevation was correct on every ride. only slightly higher compared to Strava:
35.6 km / 755 m / 735 m
32.4 km / 826 m / 817 m
36.5 km / 765 m / 736 m
31.1 km / 694 m / 679 m
23.3 km / 560 m / 553 mNothing else has changed in my setup, no new sensors or anything like that. I did install the latest update on Thursday, potentially affecting last 3 rides, but nothing in the changelog suggests any work on this issue.

Hello everybody,
I have the same problem with my Karoo 2. In August 2023 I reported the problem, which occurred after every bike ride, without using the sim. They immediately replaced the device, but even with the new device I had the same problem.
I got this answer:
"This is related to another issue that affects the altimeter on the Karoo which present itself as spikes in the recorded elevation profile. Each spike is only a couple of meters but they are frequent and add up to an appreciable amount over a ride.
This issue is different from the previous issue on your Karoo and this is an issue that is affecting a few riders in our community as well. Our team is working to find the best resolution and we hope to have more news to share with the community very soon.
At this time, the workaround is to utilize the elevation correction tools on 3rd-party sites like Strava so the correct data is shown in your feed. You can find elevation correction tools in the ride options after it is uploaded."
Since that day after every bike ride I update the altitude with the strava function, which is almost always half of that recorded by the device. Not at all a comfortable operation to do every time. Not to mention the fact that during the ride I never have precise data on the altitude. It makes me smile that the same company that doesn't release the calories count without the use of a power meter (claiming that with HR alone it would not be ACCURATE data)
"we believe measuring these values from Power (watts) is more accurate than deriving them from Heart Rate (beats per minute)."
At the same time this company leaves its users and communuyt for years without a simple data such as altitude, telling us to adjust it after each ride on strava. LOL Maybe I need to buy an altimeter and connect it to the Karoo2?
Hammerhead guys, do you have any news for us? Or should I get a Garmin?
Thanks
Federico
