Karoo 2 factory reset itself after being off for 3 weeks
I hadn't powered in my Karoo 2 in about 3 weeks. Powered it on before my ride, was at about 80% battery level, and found it had factory reset itself.
Absolutely did not initiate this and last use was tracking a normal ride, after which I powered the device off at around 80% charge and left it sitting for 3 weeks. I needed to sign in again and set up as if brand new, repair sensors, and frustratingly, re. download several gigabytes of basemap data so my routes would work.
This only become apparent after my routes failed to sync, and I realised I needed the base maps. The device didn't tell me I first needed to download the base map, it just kept saying something like 'Route download failed' with no indication it was due to the lack of base map. It would be a better way of error handling and saving time if it first checked the relevant map was available, before attempting to download something it can't.
This whole thing has added an unacceptable amount of time (Over 45min by the time everything had sorted itself) and now I've well and truly lost my window to ride before work.
Can anyone advise why my device reset itself after not being turned on for some time? There was still plenty of battery, so it hasn't gone flat after not being used. I generally stay on top of updates. In this instance I was given no option to update, had just powered the device on and it had wiped itself. What the heck!
Have been a big fan of the Karoo 2 but now losing faith in the product. I can't rely on it if I need to check it it hasn't wiped itself before every ride. This is unacceptable. My device is also less than a year old.
Please work on fixing this unreliability in upcoming software releases. It's much more important than random fitness tracking features.
