Andreas: This is sideloading and it's not related to SDK. It's seperate. We are not writing in this thread about sideloading but SDK.

SDK will allow third-party developers not only to create new apps but integrate apps/plugins with Karoo's for example UI.

Right now - you can sideload app and what? You can use it just like an app but you can't show using Karoo's dashboard UI some data fields etc, custom graphs.

    SDK is like an integration.

    Basically: https://github.com/hammerheadnav/karoo-sdk
This is official SDK which can't be used on Karoo 3.

Unfortunately I had to make use of my 30 day return policy. As I have three bikes with different electronic drivetrains (SRAM & Shimano), I would like to be able to use my bike computer on each of my bikes. Unfortunately, Hammerhead have not been able to offer or at least guarantee a solution. As soon as the Karoo3 will work with Shimano gears (either out-of-the-box or via activation and an additional app), I will order it again. Until then, I'll continue to ride my Karoo 2.

My Karoo 2 died last week (the "won't power on" issue), and I ordered a Karoo 3 to replace it not realizing SRAM was screwing us over with the SDK. Looks like I'll be returning it as soon as the Garmin Edge 1050 comes out. SRAM is really making this an easy choice for anyone running Di2.

    They themselves have killed Hammerhead.

When the 1050 comes out there will be no reason to spend €500 on a karoo3 when I can't use my shimano DI2.

Hammerhead has shot himself in the foot.

It would have been better to stick with the karoo2 for €240. The only interesting thing about the karoo3 is that the screen looks less whitish in the sun....

One of the worst evolutions I have seen in my life in a product...

Count me as one of the people who returned their karoo unit due to the lack of SDK support.

14days ago Hammerhead released a statement about SDK stating, We do not have any timelines as of yet as it is an ongoing project, but we hope to have more information to share on this topic soon.
Can we have the information and a timeline please it's long past soon

SRAM/HH's corporate definition of soon isn't the same as a user's expectation of soon.

"More information to be shared soon" could end up being months.

Hammerhead is acting like they don't care if the Shimano users leave and buy a Garmin or Wahoo.  Maybe now that SRAM bought Hammerhead, they envision the Karoo as a tool mostly for SRAM users.  I don't know why Hammerhead would limit their target audience, but really don't seem to care if a huge number of Shimano users walk away from their product.

It's a really baffling business decision if that's why. I have both SRAM and Shimano on my bikes, and always have made a purchasing decision based on which groupset works best for my needs. This sort of behavior is making me reconsider ever purchasing another SRAM product (just as I did for Shimano pulling support for the original karoo). Will be seriously considering a different groupset manufacturer for my next bike. Either Campagnolo or one of the up and coming manufacturers from China.

I cannot grasp how they KNOW that they cannot provide native support for di2 an STILL did not publish the SDK… just crazy how a business can miss this.........

Ordered the garmin 1050- seems pretty compelling and with two di2 bikes and one sram bike it seems like a no brainer

I will be migrating back to the Garmin 1050. With that new screen and the ki2 locked, I see no reason to go towards a k3 in the future :/

HH/Sram are you sleeping? 1050 has 20hrs of battery, training function, a bell,…display…
All we are asking whether you can provide us with any thoughts on the competitiveness of Karoo, because it seems that SDK is needed for all those things you simply ignore and you don’t want to share a roadmap with us at all.
    - eat/service reminder
    - diabetes monitoring (sry if it’s not that precisely described)
    - crash detection
    - Ki2/3 (Di2 support)
    - …

Sorry to write…I personally think that you waste your last chances here to catch up together with the community!

All the new features of the Garmin 1050 are now available on the garmin 1040/840/540/explorer2.... The new GroupTrack that loads a route and shares it with the entire group, and in case of an accident, informs the rest, seems to me to be one of the best new features in a cycle computer. Karoo, for its part, blocks the SDK, blocks the new Companion APP in karoo2, blocks the use of blips in karoo2... Sadly Karoo is dead for many riders these days.

Another update today and still no SDK or timeline. The Edge 1050 is available for delivery in 4-5 weeks. Hammerhead still has 2 weeks or 1 update left for me. Then the order goes out to Garmin

Are you based in Europe? I am in Italy and the Garmin site says 3-5 weeks.

I ordered the K3 and what a device and what a miss to not have Ki2. I won't return it yet as I trust HH to take proper action for all their existing customers. Hey, we are HH's ambassadors out in the field..! (At least that's how I felt it in the last years).

edit: still I'll investigate on the new Edge 1050 and make up my mind ;-)

@jvdgiessen: Is this the way how to communicate and treat your ambassadors? 🤷🏼‍♂️

Today is my last chance to initiate the return process… and I will start it in 2hrs.

Frankly, the support of HH-team decreased over the last year and all important feature requests are permanently ignored…

My 1050 order is out and I‘ll receive it next week. Very sad that I need to go that route… :-/

I switched from the Karoo2 to the 1040 a long time ago due to the lack of Di2 support.
I would have gone back to the Karoo 3 but this is not the case now.
My 1050 order is also out and I will receive it next week.

Really don't get this;  for the last few years I have been telling anyone who would listen how good the Karoo 2 was, so I am really disappointed that the SDK, and therefore KI2, wont work. Off to buy a Garmin

Just sent my Karoo back as well. It's a shame, I otherwise really liked the device.
Come on Hammerhead, you can surely do better that that regarding transparency about enabling the SDK and communication with your customers. I'd be willing to rebuy the device when the SDK is released - I really mean it. Please step up.
