Hi, in the Spanish community we have a developer that put so much effort in understanding the API/SDK and integrating functionality from an Android training app of him in the K2 (VinApp). I don't use the Karoo for training, but it's well know on Community that Karoo has a lot of room for improvement in that matter, and I saw some of the screenshots that he attached on a Spanish forum and it's really impressive how a guy that really loves this thing can do unofficially, in spite of a poor API, powering the Karoo in training screens.

I think also in other small integrations that can do a better life for people as some of the messages read in this post, as diabetics, etc. Sure there are other small projects that can improve the K-experience for every cyclist.

So, blocking this thing on K3, that already works on K2, thinking about Ki2 and Shimano maybe is a poor excuse.

This feature was one of the very good things of the Karoo, what it would be nice if they improve it for better 3rd party apps integrations, but not if they block it. Please, open it, HH.

    Regards.

... no further information - no concrete confirmation about a new SDK - no timeline

    ... since one month !!!

    Hammerhead's communication is very disappointing.

After the last and only comment, there should have been another current status or timeline after a month.

However. My Edge 1050 was delivered 2 days ago and I am very satisfied. The two points I would have liked for the Karoo are there.
Adjustable speaker volume (The Karoo's beeper is way too loud. I borrowed a device from the bike shop for a test ride and had to turn off all the sounds because of the volume. It was sometimes embarrassing next to other people on the bike path because of the volume) and working Connect IQ apps to individualize.
Hammerhead had 3 months to give at least a timeline.

I was between Hammerhead and Garmin for a new device. So Hammerhead made the decision for me for the Edge 1050

Yesterday I wrote to Hammerhead support again to ask whether the SDK will be opened soon or ever. At the same time, I ordered a Garmin 1050 to test it.

As others have said, I am not considering the purchase of a Hammerhead beyond the Karoo2 without the release of SDK—for not only Ki2 but also other sideloaded apps.

I’m going to sell my Karoo 3 and get a Garmin. I bought the 3 assuming it would get the SDK that the 2 has but clearly that’s not going to happen.

The K3 is a great unit, but it's not a complete unit unless you have a SRAM drivetrain. This... ^^^ is becoming a more palatable option for me every day. Yeah, the 1050 is expensive, but not as expensive as switching out my Di2 drivetrain for a SRAM AXS drivetrain to get the functionality I want from my head unit. And, I'd have to do this 3x! I was very disappointed the SDK hasn't been released and I'm wondering when/if it will be.

    Dear Hammerhead/Sram,

Would you mind to at least provide us with a simple „yes“ or „no“ to the SDK??

As I wrote in one of my first posts… this topic has a serious potential to cause you headaches if not handled in a customer friendly and transparent manner…
I can‘t see anything about customer is king mentality anymore… :-/
Time for a change, what do you think?

I'm in the market for a new bike computer and having some API / SDK is very important to me. I thought Hammerhead is aiming towards their own version of ConnectIQ in the long term so that the Community can add minor features on their own (drinking reminders, poi distances, live Wind,...) but apparently that is not a priority at Hammerhead

The SDK was never a priority for HH, I think it was never officially announced - I got to know about it through this forum here. It is also very limited for the older Karoos.

Same here! Would really like to buy it due to the display and though the battery lasts not as long as my 1040. But if my DI2 is not supported, no way. I had a really bad bike accident 3 yrs ago and since then I prefer the edge remote and the DI2 to switch between the pages.

And if you haven't died, you're still waiting for Hammerhead to deliver solutions for integrating the DI2.
I have now closed the topic and bought the new Garmin Edge 1050. It's a bit more expensive, but together with the Connect platform it also offers a lot more functions. I still can't understand how a company can lose customers to its competitors through its own ignorance.
    Farewell

Same here. I sent back the Karoo and bought the Garmin 1050. What a stupid decission of HH to not approve the SDK yet. You lost an active ambassador, HH.

    All the best!

HH/Sram can you please stop this brain-drain?! Most of the active community is leaving to Garmin if you don’t react NOW!
And thanks to this your product is just getting worse and worse because the community disappears!

    Hi,

Thanks for checking in. There are no further updates on the timeline for SDK development.

    Have a nice weekend!

    That’s really frustrating!!!
I am not sure whether it would be a good idea to ask some cycling-YouTuber whether they can use their direct-wire to SRAM/HH to ask about SDK? Probably not…

... one clear statement from Hammerhead can stop this senseless discussion ;-(

... sorry, but I cannot understand the ignorance

    ... I´m a customer from the beginning K1 (early adopter) -> K2 (preorder)

@thomas hartenstein... totally agree with you. I was a Kickstarter purchaser of the original Karoo, and did a ton of testing for HH on K2 and K3. I was chagrined by the Shimano situation, but now I'm of the opinion that the SRAM situation is worse. There IS a solution for Di2 integration on the new unit, but SRAM and HH, for whatever reason, not only haven't released it, they are refusing to commit to doing it. So, sadly, given the 4 year old tech that is Karoo 2, I will be looking for a new head unit and selling my K3. I may as well, right? It's really no use to me as it is.

I have no horse in this race as I returned my K3 but I don't understand why so many are purchasing and/or not returning the K3 when they need the SDK for added functionality. The best way to speak to SRAM/HH is with your wallet.

@frank fiorentino, I spoke with my wallet (and thus agree with your advice) Returned the new Karoo and bought the Edge 1050. Didn’t want to, loved the start up scale up approach when Hammerhead wasn’t part of SRAM. Engagement with the community especially with Karoo 2 was great. Now they are held back by corporate SRAM and don’t engage with the community anymore. Neither do Garmin, but at least the Edge 1050 is packed with features. Truly hope to return someday to HH, but I am happy with the Edge 1050 with all of its features, great screen and Di2 support

I don't think they have any plans to release the SDK. Every time I have it clearer. It's a shame, because if they opened the environment to developers, the device would surely improve a lot. On the contrary, they would lose control over the proper functioning of the device when external applications are installed, although I understand that this should not worry them...

Just to join the chorus: I will give HH another month and then if there is no imminent SDK, I will buy the Garmin 1050 and sell my K3 and K2 units.

1050 has been purchased, K3 is going up on eBay this weekend. I bought the device under the impression I may get Di2 support and was wrong. I’ll lose a little money but I know the 1050 has all the features I was hoping to get from HH
