I did not expect this to be a significant issue when I bought the new Karoo, but it actually is. Even when riding on my own, the beeper is just too loud and obnoxious. I always ride with audio alerts off now but would really like to have them.

I also fear that this cannot be fixed in software on the new karoo :(. If it would be, they would have done so already, and also not used the same beep at the same level for the bike bell feature gplama showed in an IG story.

I can only join in on this as well. The beeper is not acceptable the way it is. The whole street turns around and stares at you when you get an audio alert wondering what's going on. Also Gerard Vroomen from OPEN Cycles says that this is the worst thing about an otherwise superb product. I would also love to know IF it can definitely be fixed. I don't mind the time frame so much, but I would like to know if it is really possible at all.

As far as I can remember Garmin changed the tone of the speaker on the 40series Edge models (e.g. for the climb pro finish) with a firmware update, or even added and removed tones with a device old as the 820. So it should be possible, too, that Hammerhead might switch to different and less annoying tones for the alerts.

I tested my new Karoo yesterday for the first time and even that I was warned already I was surprised, how loud it is. But on the other hand it was extremely windy yesterday and therefore the loud radar-alert kind of helpful in warning of following cars.

I real wonder how this loudness could pass the quality control before the shipment of the units started. I mean, in my ears the volume of the Karoo 2 was perfect, so why change it?

I have a Garmin Fenix 6 and I have disabled the sounds on the Karoo 3 to listen to them through the Fenix. Detour warnings can be tolerated because they are very occasional when you are riding a road bike, but radar warnings on busy roads are completely unbearable.

My goodness, this thread is already three months old. During this time, there have been several updates that have not solved this problem.
I've had the Karoo 3 for three weeks now and I'm actually totally delighted .... if it weren't for this beeper!
You can hardly activate it, especially when you're travelling with several people or driving through a village or town.
I've deactivated it in all profiles, which can't be the point of a beeper, can it?
I've found a simple solution for the radar: I turn my beeper of and ride always with my wife, she has a Signa EVO Computer that warns me with a nice sound too ... ;-) Haha ...

    Go Hammerhead, do something!
We fly to the moon, have self-driving cars but can't manage to tame a beeper? Unbelievable!
Is there a possibility? Can we hope? If not, please tell us honestly!

    Regards
    Joachim

    > My goodness, this thread is already three months old. During this time, there have been several updates that have not solved this problem.

Other support threads are 3 years and older and still unfixed, it's pretty crazy how the support is (not) working here.

In another thread they also mentioned they are currently aggregating feedback and need to coordinate how to fix the issues in the future. But honestly, it's their third product, so what's going on? This sounds like a gauche startup, not like a established brand, that is on the market for years, did they completely switch their development team?

Yeah, it's weird, also noticed it with the latest updates, that aren't fixing anything important. That's also why my assumption is, that something has changed with their team and the new members don't not really know, how everything is handled / connected, so they are not touching anything important and just minor stuff, to not make it worse, extremely unsatisfying for us customers. Was never a fan of my garmin for many reasons, but when I noticed an error the dev team contacted me directly to find a solution, that was quite nice and took about a week until the fix was released.
I would expect, that a company, that is trying to reach some market shares and becoming a serious competitor, is more flexible and does react quicker to user feedback...

Are people really expecting a fix here anytime soon lol. I’ve had my K2 for a while now and when I first had issues I searched the forum and found posts YEARS old with same problems Every time HH staff would say we are working on it and expect a release soon. Word of advice, if you cannot live with the issue indefinitely, sell and go with Garmin.

    Yes, I'm expecting a solution!
Karoo 2 is based on its own operating system. The newly developed Karoo 3, on the other hand, is based on Android, which is much more customisable.

For this reason, I think that changing the function is much easier to do than on a proprietary operating system.

    Just my 2 pence ....

Karoo 2 is also based on Android ...

Nevertheless it is simply not true, that nothing is happening, if you check the software release notes, there are constant updates, it depends on personal interests and preferences, if you find them to be more or less useful.

And this community is just one small part of the whole feedback thing that decides the priority of implementing new features. For example the eat and drink reminder: for how many people is this really important? If there is no demand other than that from the community posts here, then I too would prioritize it down in my ToDo-list.

And as for the bugs, I still think, Hammerhead is working on them (and you can see some bug fixes with every update), but I'm sure, sometimes it's not easy to fix a problem as it looks from the outside (same can be said about new features). And we don't know how big the development team at Hammerhead is and what their priorities are since SRAM bought Hammerhead.

The Karoos are not perfect and to be honest I am disappointed with the Karoo '3', as the Karoo 2 offers almost the same fine experience in my eyes, except for one less button and 2-3 hours shorter battery runtime. But on the other hand you have in my opinion a more charming unit and a better screen overall. The new screen is certainly brighter, but it is glossy and a magnet for finger taps, which finally (if you use the touchscreen a lot and have many taps on it) makes the screen less readable in direct sunlight for me than the old screen with the anti-glare coating.

But the Garmins and Wahoos are just as imperfect and you can read the same complaints in their forums and groups as here about open feature requests, unresolved bugs and no response from the developers.

So are they are all ignorant of consumers demands and wishes or is it simply impossible - given the resources - to produce something that meets of every single user's expectations?

But what is surprising: I ride with a Karoo, a Wahoo, a Garmin and they all do their basic job perfectly. And they all do a bit more than their basic job perfectly, too. And then they all have a few small differences and few small weaknesses, that can be more or less important or annoying to the individual user. But the same can be said for an Android or an iPhone or Windows, Mac or Linux or Kennwood or KitchenAid and so on. Nothing is perfect in the technical world, because nothing can be perfect there.

As long as Karoo is fixing the major bugs and introducing new features regularly, it is simply not fair and accurate to claim that Hammerhead does not react to user feedback or does not try to solve problems or introduce new features. Just ask Sigma Rox 12.1 evo users what such a behaviour really looks like.

As for the beeping: it's annoying and dangerous, as I have to turn off the sound for the radar notifications most times to avoid annoying my surroundings and myself. And sometimes I wonder if this sound is even dangerous for people with sensible ears (tinnitus)?. Last year it took Garmin 5 months to change the annoying tone when you finished a climb on their xx40 units. So Hammerhead still has a month to fix this problem. Otherwise I will sell my Karoo '3' again, because this is a crucial weakness and reason to not use it for me.

Great common-sense comment from @Thomas Gruber, thank you.

We should keep up the pressure on HH to fix this, but accept it is not quick, easy or maybe even possible. There are other brands of head unit available which any of us could buy - but all of these have their issues and problems (I came from Garmin with its awful UI and menu system).

    YMMV.

Come on Hammerhead and everybody else,

The most convincing argument to fix the issue with top priority has been brought up by Joachim Homm: "I turn my beeper off and ride always with my wife". You can't do that to him!!! That's torture :D:D:D

    @Ali

Will it be possible to install the new feature “volume control of the beeper” via a software update? Or is a hardware change to the K3 required for this?

If I'm not mistaken, a buzzer does not support volume control, so I think they will only change the tone of the warning so that it does not sound too strident.

That's true, Javier. Since its not a speaker we can't add a volume control, and we are working to update the tones through software update. It is getting tested and close to releasing it.

Thanks @Ali. I was hoping it would have been implemented in the update that just came out today, but it hasn't. We continue to wait impatiently. Greetings.

Just another voice to the gowing number of complaints that the beeper volume is ridiculously loud. It completely ruins the device to the point that I'll probably return it / sell it.

I was participating in this particular thread and I do not in any way think that any of my posts crossed any personal lines, except, that I was critical of the way support was communicating with its owners over this issue, however large or small it may be to each individual.

All I pointed out was that I was not buying the comments at the time, that support was aware of the issue, but could not provide any time frame as to when a fix might happen.

I pointed out, correctly I believe, that ALL issues large or small get slotted into project management workflow and once assigned get an ETA that the "management" of the issue is then measured against.  In other words, was the project completed on time and within budget and then evaluated for the good and bad along the way.  Pretty standard stuff across all industries.

So, I opined that what we as owners were being told was disingenuous, as they "could" give an ETA if they wanted and that it felt rude that they would not.  I thought that they were probably afraid that if they missed whatever ETA was given it would cause more negative comments, rather than what the bland "we are aware" was doing. Easier to explain away no ETA then we missed one.

Then, for some unknown reason (according to support, a "glitch", I do have an open ticket) my account was suspended and all my posts in every thread we removed.

So, all that, and at the risk of this "glitch" freezing me again, to say I'm gratified that this situation is now admittedly actually being actively worked on and support feels a fix is very close and is being tested.

I wonder if the upcoming date of dec 3rd had any bearing, but no matter, however it finally went to active pursuit of a fix is a win for us owners and I'm glad.  It really is the best unit or tied for best unit currently available, save small little things that as Thomas Gruber pointed out all the companies have.

Is there any update on this? I just bought a Karoo and will return it, if this is not fixed with the next update or if there is a clear communication this will happen shortly. The loudness is so ridiculous and embarrassing, that I cannot understand this passed internal testing.

Hi Christian, We are currently working on it, and it is being tested by the ATG members. We will release it when it is ready and provided a firm input from the ATG for the release.

Hi Ali, understood. Can you comment on the effective change in loudness? It is extremely loud at the moment. This one flaw is a real deal-breaker for me, and - to be honest - I've already factory-reset the device and will return it for now.

You could at least try by making the level adjustable (which is not default even with a buzzer). I don't know how loud the K2 was, but the current one is ridiculously loud (for me). People have been turning their heads, I've never had that with my Garmin Edge 830 and Wahoo Bolt v2.

While I agree that pleasing everyone may not be possible, I think raising the issue is acceptable. :-)

James, did you hear the beeper? Live?
Every time the beeper start jelling, I'm scared to death!
When you're driving along in your thoughts and then the beeper screams in your face, it's terrible!

No way! Half the volume should fix it! Or better, let the people choose the volume, some like it loud, some not.

I have heard it live, it’s definitely loud but I prefer that to the old one which was too quiet. I agree an adjustment setting would be handy so people can choose. More of an issue is the length of time notifications stay on screen in my opinion but I’ve started a new thread about that….

Adding to the chorus of voices requesting a volume adjustment. Disappointed not to have seen this addressed in the latest software update given how widespread the criticism has been since launch. Hopefully this is addressed before the end of the year.

We are close to releasing the improvement, with options to chose the loudness level current vs new. We hope to release it in the next software update if there are no critical bugs found by the ATG members.
