Newest version Karoo - Power button sticking
I just switched from being a longtime Garmin user to the new Karoo. I've had the unit for a few weeks and have noticed that the USB-C battery door seems to interfere with the main power button located directly next to it. The result is that: it can become difficult to actually turn the unit on (I don't detect any movement of the button); it can get stuck in a booting up mode where the "H" logo appears, disappears and reappears over and over again without actually booting up the device (like it's stuck in this cycle). Am I doing something wrong with the charging port door to cause this apparent interference? I push the entire door in until it is flush with the device housing, and that seems to cause this interference.

Thanks for bringing this up to us, @kevin.
I have created a ticket on the issue and have requested a few details regarding the issue. Please respond on the ticket so that we can assist you further.
@keith, I would request you to write to us at support@hammerhead.io elaborating the issue and sharing a short video of the issue. This will help me isolate the issue and assist you further.
We really appreciate your patience while we work through this.

I appear to have the exact same issue. Starting yesterday, my K3 started repeat displaying the H logo on boot. 1st time it happened I wasn't sure what was going on, but I did eventually notice that the power button appeared to be stuck, recessed slightly, with very little travel. After fiddling with it, I was able to get the unit to boot, but the button still looks partially depressed to me. Also, I've been able to reproduce the boot issue now multiple times today. I think I'm going to need my unit replaced if this continues.

I bought the Karoo 3 on launch day. I had the same problem and my Karoo kept rebooting mid ride, often triggered by rough roads. I shared photos and videos with support and was initially told it was a software issue but physically I could see it was a defective unit. After some back and forth with HH, they agreed to replace the unit but by that time I had decided to obtain a refund and go back to my Garmin 1040. Now that the 1050 is out with the upgraded display, the differences between the Karoo and Garmin have, IMO, clearly tipped to the Garmin so I will be staying with Garmin. I really wanted the Karoo to work, I was an early adopter of the K2 but other issues drove me away and now I don't see myself ever coming back to a Karoo.

I believe there is a design flaw with that power button, and I'm not really convinced that a new unit will solve the problem for me. The power button sticks, and I'm finding it sticks whether the adjacent USB port door is open or closed. The Garmin 1050 definitely addresses all the issues that drove me to Karoo in the first place, but the price is pretty outrageous.

Same issue here. Power button doesn’t always release after pressing (regardless of whether the USB-C cover is in place or not).
Separate issue…unit will download the most recent firmware update but will not actually install it. Hit “install” and all it does is reboot. And if the power button is stuck, it reboots over and over until I physically pull it back out using my fingernail.
UPDATE: returning for refund.

Please raise a ticket with us so we can look into it: https://support.hammerhead.io/hc/en-us/requests/new
Provide necessary pictures and videos, along with the serial number of your Karoo. Thanks!

I have exactly the same issue, the unit worked fine for the first month and now I have the same issue with the on/off button.
The is difficult to actually turn unit on (I also don't detect any movement of the button); it gets stuck in a booting up mode where the "H" logo appears, disappears and reappears over and over again without actually booting up the device (like it's stuck in this cycle).
Can you please advise ASAP as the unit is more or less unusable

As the OP of this thread, a quick follow-up post: Hammerhead replaced my unit under warranty, but unfortunately, the issue of the power button getting stuck presented on the replacement unit after around 2 weeks of use. I cleaned the unit to try and mitigate any contaminant from entering the power button gaps, but to no avail. So... This is absolutely a design flaw with the product, and if they send you a new unit, it will not solve the problem. Is it a showstopper? I guess it depends on what the user is willing to accept. I find it very irritating that this problem exists, especially after Hammerhead took 3 years to come out with a hardware update to Karoo 2, you'd think that would give them ample time to conduct thorough FMEA analysis and product testing to find faults such as this.
I also have to wonder why Hammerhead has not introduced more connected accessories such as lidar lights and other value-added features. It would be nice if they could come out with something more for the companion app, with more health and workout analysis (current options are nil). The system works wonderfully with my Red AXS and WiFli components, but I cannot tap into deeper features on products such as my Garmin power meter.
Anyway, there are many things to love about the Hammerhead system (navigation, screen clarity, route loading), but it's just a shame that they let the little things get in the way (i.e. poorly-designed buttons). The system still falls short in a few other ways too: Why not an edge-to-edge screen? Battery life is far improved, but still falls short of the competition, so any super-endurance user may have issues (I fortunately, have not yet had an issue, but I'm surprised that a 4-5 hour ride will drain more than half my battery). Overall, I am still left a bit disappointed.

So, I have a replacement unit - the first one had this problem…. Guess what, this one does too…. HH, is there a team working to resolve this design flaw? I am a huge fan, but am surprised this wasn’t caught in testing… And, I hate the idea of having to send what is an awesome device back until this is resloved…

Slicing the edge of the power button will void any warranty and presents a potential for water entry. Sorry, not gonna try that on a nearly $500 device where something so simple should have been designed out. My battery lid closes fine. There is other interference with the power button that has caused it to get stuck in the down position and you have to pry it out with your fingernail or similar to get it to "unlock". My unit has reset itself during rides if that power button is even remotely in the down position. It's a slick design aesthetically, but functionally, it's deeply flawed.

Yeah, I agree...no way am I shaving anything off the power button. This thing is still under warranty. And very dissapointing the replacement units don't have it fixed. So we're stuck. Can't return it. SRAM/Hammerhead, while offering to replace under warranty, doesn't actually seem to be redesigning to fix it. Re-sell is shot because who wants to buy a unit with a power button you have to pick out with your fingernail and give it a soapy bath to try to "fix" for a few rides. Have had 3 Garmins and 2 Wahoos and never experienced something like this.
