Second Map screen
PlannedHi, its been 4 monthts now, several updates. Any news on the possibility to get more then just one mapscreen per profile, each with different data?
It would be great, to get a second editable mapscreen in one profile. So i can put 4 datascreens on one mapscreen, and on a second mapscreen maybe only 2 datascreens for example or the full map.
Now i can just have 1 Mapscreen with or without datascreens per profile and its not ideal.

I'd guess that the reason this might be taking so long is that if you have two map screens they are both doing all of the navigation work independently, so it would be twice the work and therefore a significant battery drain. For my purposes the ability to increase/decrease the number of fields shown on the map screen easily in-ride would be ok - so you can reduce down to none for full screen map, and ade them back using a button press one by one (or two by two) to get more or less detail. You'd configure the maximum number as normal in the Profiles page as usual and they'd be removed starting from the bottom one/two with the button press.

Wow. So just for my K3 and one of the first things I’m trying to do is add another map screen but with only two metrics to track… which brought me here. I can’t believe this isn’t possible! Makes me feel I bought the wrong device. You don’t need two map instances running to kill the battery - you have 1 and change the overlay pointer.

Thanks for this Quentin, I had been eagerly awaiting the new Karoo, but this comment along with the online coverage I have seen confirms that it really is more of a K2.5 than a full update. I genuinely like my K2 and the size, Android OS, mount & maps are all great for me. All I wanted was more battery life (30% increase was not enough) and more processing power as the K2 is rather laggy in 2024. The fact that SRAM/Hammerhead haven't been able to resolve the multiple map screen issue after the new hardware revision is really disappointing & I find the price jump quite a cheek considering so little has improved.
I really wanted to treat myself to this unit, but it looks like I'll be on my K2 until it dies & then see if the situation has improved, or if I need to spend my money elsewhere.

For me, it would be sufficient if the fields on the map could be slid up from the bottom like a drawer. This way, they could be quickly hidden or displayed. I use the upcoming elevation profile on the map, and it would be enough if I could simply turn it on and off as needed to maximize the map display in unclear situations.

I understand the wish for a second map screen, but I wonder why Garmin or Wahoo don't offer this option as well? Maybe there are more problems in the background than we can imagine? On the other hand, Sigma does offer some sort of second map display on their 12.1 evo device, so I don't know. I for one would love to see a more customizable map screen, be it with drawers for ride data/elevation profile or kind of flexible data fields. That would be great and should be possible with this operating system.
