Will Karoo work in China ?
AnsweredI'm going to China in April, planning to ride in Beijing and Xian, the Taihang Mountains and around Zhengzhou including Kaifeng and Shaolin. I'd like to use my Karoo but I know there is a problems with Google maps.
Google is blocked in China and if you look at the satellite picture, it is offset from the mapping by about 2km. You can see this for yourself by focusing in on some spot in China then switching to satellite view. You will see a map overlay offset from the picture.
I'm aware that Karoo uses OSM and therefore, these issues may not apply. Has anyone been to China and used OSM / the Karoo ?
China has its own very accurate mapping (Baidu ?) but I don't know how to access it.

Further to my own comment, here is a picture of what I mean. This is near Guoliang in the Taihang mountains. You can see the satellite picture and the mapping overlay are offset by 600m. This is a view from ridewithgps which uses Open Street Map as does the Karoo. Following routes which are 600m out of position would not be easy.

Hi Lance. We use OpenStreetMap as the base map and most countries are adequately covered in their system. You can visit https://dashboard.hammerhead.io/plan and select a region at the top left to view it.
Please write an email to support@hammerhead.io if you see any discrepencies.

Hi Lance, the map issue is addressed by Franklin, but there might be some issue if you want to upload the activity to Strava in China.
I live in China and started using Karoo recently. It seems that it is difficult to upload activities to Strava straight from the Karoo head unit if you are in China. Perhaps it is because that Strava website is often not inaccessible here. But uploading to Strava from Hammerhead Dashboard works fine.
