Feature request: reverse route
CompletedHi, it would be nice to store a route once and have the option to reverse it on the fly. I know we have this option in the dashboard but this makes your device to have 2 routes, which makes it difficult to search roads later on if you have many.
Also, the option to reverse it in the dashboard changes the route, as mentioned here: https://support.hammerhead.io/hc/en-us/community/posts/360043658193-BUG-Editing-a-route

Hi All,
Update: You can now follow any of your routes in reverse, without the internet. When selecting your route from the routes list on your Karoo, choose “Follow in reverse”.
Thank you!

Adding a +1 to this request. Maybe the default can be the direction in which the route was saved, and a long press or similar affordance could access the route direction option?
The need and benefit is that for some of us, the direction of the prevailing winds matter when choosing a route direction. Additionally, some routes are out-and-back only (e.g. bikepacking) so, it would be nice to save only the trail itself, and choose the navigation direction when starting the ride.

Hi,
Really happy with the reverse option in the dashboard. Two questions which would be very helpful for me:
- is there a plan to include the reverse option on the device itself?
- When opening my stored routes in dashboard, it is not clear what the route direction is, let alone if I reversed. Is it possible to include some indication in the direction of the route prior to selection it in dashboard or on the Karoo? (Or is this possible but am I looking in the wrong places?)
Thanks!

@Steve: I am sure that you will be already aware but just to confirm, the "Route to start" option is now available on the Karoo in the Quick Actions menu.

@Rene: Yes, we do have plans for it but as of now, the only option available is "Route to start" or you can use pin-drop navigation to get a similar functionality that you are looking for. That being said, we expect the "Reverse Route" will be implemented somewhere down the line based on the number of requests and other prioritization criteria.
For the next question, we would suggest you use the start and destination point indicators to define the direction of the route. You can see the same pointer indicator on the Dashboard when you create or import a route. As on Dashboard, you can see the same indicator on the unit as well.
If you have the route on the Dashboard, you can zoom it into the extrema to see the start and the destination pointer on the map. This will help you with the direction of the route.(a) Destination point
(b) Starting point

Hi Hari,
Thanks for the quick reply. With regards to the direction of the route, this often doesn’t work as I have a round trip with start and finish in the same location (my house) and first and last 5km of the route are identical to get in and out of the city.
This eliminates the option to verify direction based on start and finish point.
Wahoo uses some sort of flow arrow in the route combined with distance markers which allows for instant understanding of the route direction.
I believe this is a very valuable update for anyone cycling round trips

@Hari,
Yep - but this will go straight back to the start. What if you want to reverse the route that you've just done, without going straight back to the start.
It could be straight forward as i've noticed dashboard creates routes using a minimum number of waypoints to construct the route. Something similar could be done by sending those waypoints which structure the route to the Karoo to allow it to do it.

@Karoo team: Here is a real-life use case of today: Did an 8hrs ride, missed a turn, found myself on the reverse arm of the ride. I decided to continue riding it reverse direction since fixing it would have been too cumbersome. Now that I CAN'T reverse the route, I had to visually follow the yellow (mapped route) line, whilest Karoo 2 was trying to guide me back on the opposite direction, it threw hundreds of turn directions at me, draiing the battery. Finally I reduced brightness to 50%, then 20%, finally the Karoo 2 died on me after 7hrs. So not only is it a pain in the butt not being able to correct the route's sense of riding, it also eats up the battery, rendering the Karoo disarmed after 7hrs ride only. C'mon - what is so difficult in allowing the route reversal on the fly?

@Reinhard Plietsch: As previously mentioned, we have considered this as a feature request & shared these thoughts with the product team. As for your particular case mentioned, would you mind sharing the recorded FIT file & the GPX file for the route you were following? I'd love to look into the described issues a bit further. Thanks!

@Dakota: Sure, here you go:
GPX file: https://www.komoot.de/tour/274732956
FIT file, downloaded from Karoo 2 (post recovery after battery died): https://drive.google.com/file/d/1HKNz2p0ibk35U6EPeHkZvUgjjApe-xD_/view?usp=sharingAs I mentioned in my first post: Since I was riding the route in reverse direction by mistake, Karoo tried to guide me back into correct sense of orientation by steadily re-calculating/re-routing which seems to have eaten up battery charge very quickly. Since I could not correct the route direction on the fly and did not want to stop the ride and re-start again, I had to accept the permanent re-routing and finally the battery died on me...
Pls let me know what you find/see - thank you. -
I would really like to see Route reversal. I am going on a loop ride tomorrow with a group but they will decide which direction to ride when they get there - depending on wind direction. I don't want to have to carry two versions of the route, with my last GPS it was just a button press to reverse direction and the route stayed identical including off map parts.
