Feature request: reverse route
CompletedHi, it would be nice to store a route once and have the option to reverse it on the fly. I know we have this option in the dashboard but this makes your device to have 2 routes, which makes it difficult to search roads later on if you have many.
Also, the option to reverse it in the dashboard changes the route, as mentioned here: https://support.hammerhead.io/hc/en-us/community/posts/360043658193-BUG-Editing-a-route

Hi,
Yesterday I had this problem for the first time. I.e, for the first time I used a route, consisting of a big loop, which I then proceeded to ride in the opposite direction, simply because it suited me and my buddies. I neglected to "reverse" it on the dashboard; actually, I didn't want to because as others have stated, I might want to ride the loop in either direction on different days.
As noted by others, the unit CONSTANTLY, without pause, tried to re-route me either back to the start-point or just to what it considers the "correct" direction, I'm really not sure which. It constantly overlayed the map with RED, in addition to the original track, which is in YELLOW. It CONSTANTLY is performing re-routing, eating up battery power which is terrible anyway but that is a separate issue.
The CONSTANTLY CHANGING RED overlays made for a horrendous navigational experience, and the unit was actually worse than useless as it continually was urging me to take an incorrect path.
Given that this thread is over 1 YEAR OLD, one must really wonder about priorities in the development team. THIS IS AN ESSENTIAL FEATURE!
The unit must allow both:- Riding a Route in either direction, and
- Allow the starting of the the Ride on the Route at other locations other than the "beginning", as there are on some loops many ways to enter the loop!
One "method" I tried to fix the "reverse direction" problem during the ride was to stop the ride and start a new one, hoping it would just decide to route me in my desired direction. False. This then had the EXTREMELY NEGATIVE side effect of me then not having my ORIGINAL starting point meaning, should I have needed it, I would have had NO WAY TO NAVIGATE BACK TO START. And why this? Because there is STILL NO WAYPOINT APP, with which I can set waypoints in route, during the ride directly on the unit, and not on the dashboard! For instance, I would ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS SET A WAYPOINT, EXTRA, WHERE MY CAR IS!!!!!
Every device on the market allows the setting of Waypoints, in route, directly on the unit, and they provide a manager-app for this.
Update: Another option would be this: in addition to "reversing" the Route, you could allow the following a) select a Profile, b) select a Route, c) start the Ride, with the (new) option of starting the Ride "without Navigation". The GPX track which was imported as the Route would then be shown on the map but there would be no navigational prompts, and certain data-fields (upcoming elevation, remaining distance, etc.) would not be operational. However, I could then simply follow the YELLOW Route of my own accord.

I'm surprised after a year this hasn't been added yet. Also had the red re-route of obscurity occur yesterday on my way home from an A>B ride. Preciously when I've done this with the Garmin the routing options don't show but the map line is there so you can follow the route back. With the Karoo I just get a red popup every 30 seconds covering half the map with no way of turning them off.
Could this be raised in priority please?

We need reverse route so badly! Many times on rides, I would like to swap route directions. Drives me back to my old ROX 12.0 which can reverse routes in a breeze. Software on ROX is 3 yrs old now. Shame on HH that nobody seems to listen to us as a user base for more than 2 yrs now! 👎😒 Very disappointed...

Come on Hammerhead, this is clearly a much wanted feature request. I did a ride last week in Swaledale in gale force winds. We had planned an anticlockwise loop in advance and when we arrived found we had a 5 mile climb into the wind which was difficult on rocky technical ground. It would have made a massive difference if we could have reversed the route and done a 5 mile descent with the wind behind us. I may have to go back to my Wahoo which does this with ease. I dont understamd the difficulty in implementing this, perhaps its looking out for 1 way roads or something but our rides are mainly off road and I would be happy just to have the reversal using an unchanged route with just the waypoints reversed.

If it were possible to "see" a route without having the device perform navigation, then the problems caused by this missing feature, called for now for years, would at least be alleviated. Most riders are more than able to follow a presented route without any kind of navigation prompts, arrows, etc. Just ride!
Please implement this minimal feature!

To me, it's clear that Hammerhead is seeing Garmin as the only competitor to follow when it comes to prioritizing features. The fact that hammerhead doesn't offer a Wahoo mount adapter supports this theory. IMHO, this is a terrible strategy, since Wahoo users represent a significant sizable market, at least in the USA. As many have mentioned, reversing a route is basic functionality that Wahoo computers supports out of the box, providing a simple warning message about potential wrong way streets. I hope they reconsider.
-
So. Any news on this? Quite a basic feature and 2 years ago Hammerhead stated it was on their list. For the near future....
Well, I don't get it. What takes so long?
I really don't understand the fact that some basic things take so long to implement.
Every 2 weeks updates......
So, please let us know something. Be honest. Is this something that will be implemented soon?

C'mon Hammerhead - r u serious? One of the topmost rated requests with 40 votes, more than 2 years keeping this feature open, and you are not even putting it on the dev roadmap with a clear timing? Can't be true!!! :-( Pls pick it up finally, just tagging it 'answered' is some weird kind of ignorance against us as a user base!
-
Yes, exactly this (amongst some other basic issues not being resolved, or even mentioned in a roadmap for the future, after a long period) made me sell my Karoo after a few months.
Not being able to reverse a route, not being able to know the elevation prior to a route, because the Hammerhead software is always off by a great amount, and these kind of basic errors made me decide the Hammerhead is not worth buying.
In many ways it is a great cycling computer, but it fails in too many basic features. (battery life....)
Many updates regarding logon screen etc. etc. but not the basic stuff.... I switched back to Wahoo. For me the Karoo is not there yet and I think it will take at least 1-2 years before they are really in the same league as Wahoo and Garmin.

Hey everyone, We understand that the ability to reverse the Route from the Karoo itself is a very important feature for you. We are certainly listening to your requests but this is something not in the immediate pipeline as we do have options to Route to Start, Route to Home, and Offline Route to Destination features. That being said, I have added your votes for this particular feature request.
-
The answer above is not satisfactory, as none of those three features
- Route to Start
- Route to Home
- Offline Route to Destination
do what is needed, i.e. reverse the route. For instance, the documentation for "Offline Route to Destination" clearly states "This feature is only available when the user is riding without a route." What is wanted is a route, but reversed.
See https://support.hammerhead.io/hc/en-us/articles/360037899933-Karoo-1-Offline-Route-to-Destination
It's now been > 2 years with no change.

This requests seems to be the second highest 'voted' up request in the community, and listen to users requests would seemingly be a smart decision by your product team - we know they do listen as we've seen other features added previously.
The reasons listed above as to not develop this feature don't seem to be solutions to the user problems repeated explained in this post, so hard to accept these as a reason. If its technically to much work to engineer, tell us.
Still blows my mind how such a seemingly basic feature on all other head units isn't possible for "Quite simply, the finest head unit ever built", which is "Ready for any Adventure" - providing its not going the other way round a route you've created....not those adventures.

@Hari - sry, your workarounds are quite pointless for many common use cases: Sometimes, I found myself on the route, but riding wrong sense. At any point on the route, I would like to be able to decide: "Now I want to reverse the route and ride as routed". Relying on 'route to start/home' are very weak features, since they do not take the bike profile in consideration, e.g. when riding MTB vs road bike or gravel, it gives me very inappropriate routings, whereas my pre-made route is exactly matched to my bike type. Therefore, I'd like to be able to ride by that route, in reverse direction. Pls accept that your recommended workarounds cannot close the gap...
Other bike computers like to ROX 12, are able to route by bike profile / bike type, and have full offline routing capability. This bike computer is now >3yrs old, thus should be a natural baseline benchmark for the Karoo, shouldn't it? Already regretting having sold it... -
The lack of Reverse route is a significant failing of this software.
I am fed up of regularly getting minority updates that are completely useless to me, yet require me to put in effort for familiarisation so I can continue to use the device, whilst this core function of a bike GPS is missing. It seems I made a mistake buying into Karoo and will no longer recommend it to others.
My MTB group regularly decide whether to ride a route clockwise/counter-clockwise on the day depending on weather conditions and wind direction. It's a Pain having to load two versions of the route before every ride.
Surely, you could at least have an option to reverse the existing route "as is" - i.e. ignoring one systems etc and just reverse the directions?
Other GPS companies don't have a problem with route reversal but Hammerhead don't seem to be listening or to care - a dangerous attitude with such great competition in the market place.
-
@everyone - have you voted for this feature yet, to make it even a higher priority? Voting has to issued for the title/topmost post at the beginning of this thread (NOT on the 'follow' button!). Currently it says 45 votes - let's at least make sure we take it beyond 50, should be easy... :-)
