Battery drain when low in charge. Battery life.
AnsweredI`m having a few issues similar to others with regards to battery drain. Screen brightness set very low, too low at times but kept low to aid battery life. Wifi off & no SIM card installed. For the bulk of the time from 100% to 30% I`m getting around 8%/hour, not bad, 8 ish hours but from 30% to dead it is erratic & unreliable. I rode the other week at 28%, this lasted me an hour before unit switched off & even after charging it then wouldn`t upload the ride so a manual entry to strava had to be done. Another ride done at 31% & got almost a 3 hour ride in without issue so although the battery was low it managed & I recharged it. Today I went out with 24% battery thinking I`d ride 2 hours tops & with my usual 8%/hour I thought no problem, well, 24% went to 21% with 30 minutes, 45 mins in & we`re at 18% & withing the hour I`m at 10%. The 10% lasted another 30 mins reducing to 8 then 6%. Basically around 30% & you can`t rely on it therefore battery life can be no more than 10 hours if that which is poor compared to what Hammerhead promised & the competition (I have a garmin 1030 & have regularly got 15 hours out of it). I like the unit, navigational wise it is far superior to the Garmin, much easier to use & more intuitive IMO. The screen is great too again far superior to the Garmin.
Can the unit be put into a "sleep" mode while riding yet still record the distance etc even though the screen is off should power become low, does anyone know if this is a feature???
Thanks

Hi Giles, Sorry for the inconvenience caused to you with the sudden battery drainage. Have you ever performed a battery calibration on your Karoo which has turned out to be helpful for users who encountered the same issue?
Here are the steps to recalibrate the battery fuel gauge:
1. Let the battery die (run to flat)
2. Power back on
3. Repeat power-on attempts until it will not turn on (doesn't even show boot animation - 0%)
4. Charge to 100% WITHOUT powering on the Karoo (generally at least 6 hrs, dep. on battery)
5. Once at 100% THEN power it on.Here are some tips to save the battery on your Karoo while you are riding:
- Turn Off Adaptive Brightness under Settings > Display. Set Brightness to less than 50%.
- Turn Off the Wifi and Cellular data (If not in use)
- Turn On the Airplane mode under Settings
- Try to use ANT+ for sensors over Bluetooth.
- Enable Auto-pause
- Turn Off Bluetooth/ANT+ if not in use.
Right now, it is not possible to put Karoo on sleep mode while riding. But you can turn off the screen by pressing on the top left button and Karoo still records the ride. You can turn it on with the same button.
If you are still facing issues with sudden battery drainage even after performing those steps, please write to us at support@hammerhead.io and we are happy to look deeper into this issue.
