Further integration with Komoot
AnsweredHi all,
I was wondering (read hoping) what further integrations you have planned with Komoot.
Reason being is that Komoot is a widely used route planning and cycling community platform, which is my personal favorite for adventures and multi-day cycling trips. I'm happy that its possible to, relatively easily, import your Komoot routes through the desktop versions.
However, I'm going on a multi-day bike packing trip and realized it's not possible to import Komoot routes on the go without having access to a desktop. To the best of my knowledge and attempts, I can't plan a route on my Komoot app and then transport it to the Hammerhead dashboard (Komoot doesn't let you copy a weblink in the app, nor can you download GPX files on mobile). This is a big inconvenience, which I also addressed with Komoot (answer pending). A second limitation, is the absence of uploading activities directly to Komoot. Meaning that I have to record this separately on Komoot while riding, which is far from ideal.
Could you please comment on the intentions towards possible further integration with Komoot, and specifically the two points of limitation above?
Thank you.

Hi Jeroen,
I will definitely forward your request to the Product Team. Please keep providing regular insights and suggestions. We appreciate you taking the time to do so.
Just to clarify a bit more, it isn’t so much about the urgency, but more of the work required from different teams. That is what we are doing right now. We follow a structured workflow to pull a feature into the software pipeline. This involves discovering the Pros and Cons from competitors, researching from customer interviews, designing and then when all these are finalized, it will be moved to development.
We prioritise each feature based on the number of user requests, impact on current customer base, usability, market value etc. We are already looking into it, but as we have informed you, the timeline isn’t available for us to share. I do not want to promise something that we can’t deliver on time, and would rather be happy to announce timelines or apps as they are ready.
Have a nice day.Comment actions -
Hi Jeroen
I am often using Komoot as well for planning my routes. The offroad maps are - for me - more convenient than Hammerhead standard.
So the good news is: the Komoot App (on Android) offers a gpx download possibility. So importing a downloaded file into your HH Dashboard is possible and easy using an Android device as long as you have internet access.
For downlading a Komoot route, go to
- Profile (Profil)
- Planned (Geplant)
- select one of your tours
- press the button with the three dots (upper right of the screen)
- select export GPX file (GPX-Datei exportieren)
Hope that helps!

Hi Jeroen
I'm also using IOS and often import Komoot routes into the dashboard via my iPhone.
Via the app you cannot get a link indeed, but if you surf via Safari to Komoot, you can do it just like on your desktop. Go to planned routes, copy the link from your safari browser and paste it into the Hammerhead dashboard.
Even exporting a gpx is possible that way. You can save the gpx from the Komoot website, also via the browser, onto your Phone (documents) or icloud and then import it into the dashboard or any other application (e.g. Strava).Hope this helps if you are on your Multi-day trip without desktop! Success
Kind Regards

Hi Luis,
Thanks for your reply.
Yes I do. I have the worldwide map, so this shouldn’t be the issue. I’m also able to store the route offline within the app. But where does it store this... I’m still not able to download or find the gpx file on my phone. If you have any tips, please do let me know :)

I figured out a workaround.
First of all, the easy way to download gpx files using the mobile app, is unfortunately not possible (nor can you copy a weblink from the app). See here ‘exporting your tour’: https://support.komoot.com/hc/en-us/articles/360022834132-Export-and-import-of-GPX-files
However, I tried to go to the webpage on my mobile to see if I’d be able to download the gpx file that way, without avail. I then realized that I was maybe able to copy the weblink of my route from there into the Hammerhead dashboard. Luckily, thanks to the great feature of Hammerhead, this was successful.
So in summary, it’s possible by:
1. Use your mobile browser to go to the Komoot website and login.
2. Go to ‘planned routes’, select the route you want to export, and copy the weblink.
3. Go to the Hammerhead dashboard on your mobile browser and copy the link there in the import route section.Hopefully in the future further integration will allow direct synchronization, but for now this workaround works.

+1: coming from Wahoo, the route integration was as simple as that:
- buddy creates a route, invites you to a ride
- you get the invitation, enter the komoot app or website
- hit "save route"
- when you power on the Wahoo, the route will be synced automatically to the head unit
Komoot is a pretty big thing in Europe (literally no one uses rideWithGPS) and I think the partner integration of Wahoo should be the benchmark for Hammerhead :-)

+1 for any means to be able to browse & select specific Komoot routes from the Karoo without the need of a laptop
I prepare a lot of routes, and update them regularly. So i want to avoid having many additional copies on devices. browser & selecting routes directly from komoot would be a great added value.
