Hey Thomas. Hope you are doing well.

We had this functionality where the compass was fixed in accordance with the rider orientation. This led to very high consumption of the battery charge. For this reason, we had to change it and fix the compass to map. The compass doesn't rotate relative to the map itself. The map rotates.

Currently, we have fixed the compass with the map. But, in the future, we might have plans to get it back with the improvement in battery charge consumption.

    Hi Abhishek,

    I'm fine, thank you.

Sorry, but I can't understand exactly what you mean. Is it right that you don't use the integrated hardware compass at the moment to reduce the battery consumption ?

But how about the new hardware (Karoo 2) - is there a hardware compass implemented ?

    Hi, same question here:

    > But how about the new hardware (Karoo 2) - is there a hardware compass implemented and is it fully functional ?

On my Karoo 1 I get the message "a sensor of the compass is not available. Turning the map in walking direction is not available" (this is when using Komoot :-)

Thanks for letting me know the situation and functionality of the compass on Karoo 2.

@Thomas: What I mean to say is that the compass on the Karoo screen is fixed with respect to the map. The compass will show the constant direction however the map rotates.

To inform you, we have the magnetometer on the Karoo 2 unit which is also known as e-compass.

Just received my Karoo 2 today - Disappointed that it doesn't seem to use the hardware compass (e-compass) it only updates the direction of the map when you are moving.  if you don't know which way to go when you start off you have to set off in one direction to find out if you are going the correct way.  And if you haven't got a GPS lock your totally out of luck.  Why can't you use the hardware compass? Like Google maps at least when you are not moving - by all means use the GPS once you are moving
