Resident Maps and RidewithGPS Routes

Whenever I ride, I tend to have a route downloaded on the Karoo and turn-by-turn cues displayed as I ride.

I have done a couple of month long rides in France and downloaded all of the required map regions before riding, plus all the day routes for the month.  The maps are ideal for touring and the Karoo performed on these rides perfectly.  The Karoo 2 is likely to be even better in terms of storage for maps with much more space available.  The map section download is quite painless and the routes will display on the map as created.  If the ride goes onto roads or tracks that the Karoo doesn't know about (rare), then the route line is still there to follow.

I prepare my routes using RideWithGPS and then transfer the pinned ones to the Hammerhead dashboard with the sync button - one click and they all get transferred.  The Karoo then will download all those routes when it connects to the internet - it all works well.

OK, thanks very much, Jeff. That is encouraging

If you can bear with me... Could you just explain a bit more about the comment in your final paragraph:

"I transfer the pinned routes to the Hammerhead dashboard with the sync button - one click and they all get transferred"

That sounds quite a bit different to the Garmin. What is a "pinned route?" And where is the "sync" button?

I'm guessing routes on the dashboard get transferred to the Karoo automatically?

    Thank you

Hey Geof, Excellent to hear your thought on Karoo 2.

You need to download the required new maps for your region only when you move to a different region. You will be able to download as many regions from all over the world and not only Europe if you purchased it there. The best part about the map download is it is free. You can remove and re-download the maps at no cost.

As Jeff mentioned above, you can connect your Accounts from other routing websites to your Dashboard. RidewithGPS is one such third-party application we are integrated with. You can import the routes from RideithGPS to the Dashboard to see on your device on a single click.

I was referring to pinned routes in RideWithGPS.  There is an option to set a route to be 'pinned' so that it stays listed in the 'pinned' routes list - very much like a 'favourites' list.  (to do that, open the route from the lRideWithGPS Routes and Rides list, and there is a 'Pin' button in the top left hand corner).

On the Hammerhead Dashboard there is a 'sync' button, on the Routes page, at the left of the search field.  When you use this, the Dashboard imports pinned routes from RideWithGPS and starred routes from Strava.  These routes then appear in the listed routes on the Dashboard and will automatically be downloaded to the Karoo over the internet.

Incidentally, my partner and I both have our own Karoo and our own individual Hammerhead accounts.  However, both Hammerhead accounts are connected to the same RideWithGPS account, and so each of us can download the same set of routes to our Karoo really easily.  Cool!
