Karoo 1 shuts down 20 min into the ride
AnsweredIt started 2 updates ago. Both with nav on and off the Karoo 1 started shutting down 20 min. or so into the ride. I did the last software update and the problem did not go away. After the ride I've fully drained the battery which remained at 1% for a few hours and recharged it while the unit was off. I've done a ride yesterday during which I disabled bt audio and wifi. Things were going great for the first hour and a bit, the battery had 83% remaining than about 5 min later I looked down and it plummeted to 15% and withing 4 min to 1% and shut down. At the moment I've had the unit on for about 2 hours with full screen brightness showing 1% battery.

Same. Problems began two updates ago.
By now, I've recalibrated the battery % indicator five times, done a full factory reset then upgrade to current, and recorded more desktop rides than real rides. I've had my K1 go from 100% to shutting down in about half an hour, and also had it last 3.5 hours while showing 1%.
My last two desktop rides were 12:20 with everything but GPS turned off, which is quite impressive, and 1:25 with everything but cellular on, and brightness maxed. I'm hoping it starts showing consistent runtimes with my usual features enabled, even if it's 3 hours. I can hook up an external battery for longer life.
Just wishing at this point I could roll it back a month and then turn off updates.

Been experiencing the very same thing since latest update. Karoo 1 worked fine and battery life great but since the update its drained super fast. Working with Hammerhead support now to hopefully find an answer. Its unfortunate to be dealing with this type of stuff after so many years of constant progressive improvements. Hoping its just a small hiccup.

Hi! Have the same problem. Got the tips to recalibrate the battery. I have done it twice and also the Hard reset, but no luck! My guess is that it has been triggerd by an SW update. Please help! I even started up an other Hammerhead account so that my previous rides and settings wouldn't sync up.
This is the stats after the second recalibration and hard reset:
87% at 1.45h82% at 2.36h81% at 2.45h0 % at 3.34 hI also got a negative answer from the customer service regarding a replacement unit so I really need to fix this! -
Same problem here. ~ 30min into ride Karoo 1 shut down and when I got home charging status showed < 2%. This started with the update before last for me.This happened with two rides where I had the map displayed all the time to follow single-track.
Another issue I observed is that the Karoo was not charging as expected, or at least the charging status with the unit powered on didn't move - stuck at 19% or so for hours while showing that it is charging ...
So I installed firmware from yesterday, which included a reboot, but that did not resolve the "stuck" charging status of the unit. I then powered it off with the charging cable attached. After an hour or so I checked, without unit power on, the status and the battery showed fully charged. After I then powered the unit on it also showed 100% charged as well.
I'm doing a run-down test at home where I'll just have the unit on and see how battery is draining - so far looks reasonable. Trying to charge the unit while it's on ... seems to be working at this time.
Plan to do some riding over the weekend ... lets hope it is solved with the new firmware form 11/05/2020 ...

Well, I had little hope the last round of update would help things but in the end it didn't. After a full drain (twice) and recharge. Then a hard reset, I seem to be holding true at around 5 hours. Usable but nothing close to where I was prior to one of the previous updates. Customer support was helpful but in the end, I think this is just the way its going to be for me.

Extremely sorry to say! But have go Garmin! Wiggle have a best price right now! My plan was to go with the Karoo but when you don't get no feedback... https://www.wiggle.se/garmin-edge-1030-cykeldator

Yes, the silence is deafening!
Mine shut down again today. First half hour seemed good, down to 96%. I wasn't really paying attention to the battery level but when I looked down a little later, it had shutdown. Was maybe an hour into my ride.
Restarted and it displayed 20%. Didn't last more than a few minutes and then shut down again. Another ride lost. Very frustrating. -
Hi Everyone, apologies for being able to attend to this post. Every use case is different, in a way an individual uses the device ( number of paired sensors, cellular data, screen on time etc) and we need to look into sorting them out individually. There is no action expected from the development side, so I am unable to drop in any official comment. But we will be happy to work on all your cases if you can send in the FIT files of your latest rides along with the Serial number of your devices to support@hammerhead.io. To give out some additional context - this is not a software issue, and to extend your battery life - one can use the battery saver mode. This largely has been due to mis-match between the gauge reading from battery and the Android sub-system that reports battery level. For this reason, we recommend the battery calibration in combination with the factory reset which has been a helpful workaround (for most of the affected riders) whenever it happens.

Hi Ali,
I am getting the same issue. Started with fully charged unit using a route. Battery depleted after more or less an hour to 1% then shut down. Re-started the unit with 1% battery and lasted for hours without using a route. This battery drain started happening almost a month ago whenever I use a pre-created route. There was one ride I started without a route and the battery was performing well but started depleting fast when I selected a route mid-ride. I can send you FIT files of both with and without route for your investigation.
I battery calibrated and factory reset the unit before my last ride but no improvement at all.
