Calories without power meter.
Answered-
Hi Nicklas,
On the Karoo, currently, the two fields Calories and Calorie Burn Rate is calculated from the Power data. Our calculations are based on Training Peaks and we believe measuring these values from Power (watts) is more accurate than deriving them from Heart Rate (beats per minute).
You’re totally right, this would be a valuable feature for us to add. Your feedback is enormously valuable to us so we greatly appreciate your taking the time to write to us with your feedback.

Hi Ashish,
This seems to be the standard answer your company gives to this legitimate question and/or concern. It is basically what I was told when I asked about this. Can you provide a timeline on when this feature will be added to Hammerhead computers? A disclaimer regarding the comparative accuracy accompanying the release should serve to temper the expectations of your users.
Seriously considering returning my unit because of this feature omission.

Hi Anish,
In relation to the above .... this is a bit of design flaw in my opinion. We spend an awful lot of money on the Karoo 2 and one of the primary reasons for that is to get fit and enjoy the granular detail of getting fit (like calories burnt) without the added cost of a power unit! Everything else on the unit is a work in motion ... certain data fields aren't registering when I ride which is a real mind screw so when times limited for riding these days, you don't want to stop to rectify it.
Whats the roadmap to add this significantly important feature to the unit. I'll ride with my Garmin until such time as this is rectified.

Yeah, this is an extreme disappointment for me. I don't want to spend the money on a power meter, and I'm well aware of the possible inaccuracy on calorie calculations - ever notice that Garmins and Strava both compute calories even without heart rate, and the results they get are wildly different for the same ride? Yeah. But I still want it. One way you could improve on both Garmin and Strava is by using HR when it is available and not when it isn't, AND taking cadence into account - I really don't think my calorie burn actually goes as fast as Garmin thinks when I'm going down hill and not pedaling!

Well, I have updated my Karoo 2 with the last software version and I´m very upset because there is nothing abut calories throw heart rate way. The developers have said that tey would take in count aours suggestions but that´s a lie. I have seen a lot of messages about it, even saying some of us wil change to G+++IN if they don´t aply it.
I´m thinking that the only that developerss want to read is that the screen and the desing are greats, but nothing about OURS NEEDS, or must we buy an expensive powermeter for each of our bikes??
I don´t know what are they playing, but it is very probable that I will change my Karoo2 for any other which give me what I need and not what they want.

After 2 days using karo 2 from roam, I was amazed for this bike computer but disappointed until I find out that there's no calories based on heart rate.
Because of that I'm coming back to my old wahoo roam that I also love it.
My advice to hammerhead support, to make 2 options: one making calories calculated from power meter (for more accuracy) and the 2 one making also calories calculated from heart rate (for those who dont have power meter) -
It's 2024 and I bought the new Karoo (Karoo 3), I thought it was a better choice than Garmin. Nowhere did it say that Karoo doesn't calculate calories based on heart rate.
Guys, honestly? Just implement this as an option, it's not rocket science!
Users have been begging on their knees for this function for over 4 years. So, finally bring it on! Now!
