Hey Michiel. Sorry to hear about your issues with the high battery drain. I also see that you seek information if the battery can be replaced and unfortunately the answers missed out in our response. Let me help you with the information.

Unfortunately, the battery of the Karoo can not be replaced. We recommend our users not to open Karoo by themselves considering the safety measure with the electronics componenets.

I see that you have contacted us. I am not sure what are the troubleshooting steps you have been assisted with. But I am sure you would have done battery calibration, performed a hard reset on your Karoo. It would be really great if you can email us with your answers to these questions:
    1. Do you use the map throughout your ride?
    2. How many graphical data fields do you use?
    3. Do you turn on the screen throughout your ride?
    4. What are the troubleshooting steps have you followed on your Karoo?

Besides, please share your serial number of your Karoo while you email us. You can find it under Settings > About > Status.

Do you have a battery/charging troubleshooting  protocol that you could share?

Lots of variables in fixing and optimizing the power management are present.

Configuration, cord , socket, source, device state,  charge monitor display, BMS and of course the battery can all affect things and there may be more .

There are a lot of tips scattered through out this site, Karoousers.org, and FB, but no good systematic run-through  that I can find.

My cell phones have native and supplemental apps to help with the same issue.

Is there on you would recommend for looking at what is affecting the device?

It would help in making configuration decisions, and identifying what we are seeing.

    Dear Abhishek,

I appreciate your response here, yet it again demonstrates to me the state of customer service infrastructure Hammerhead seems to have in place. I've had multiple exchanges with your support staff and it seems each time I need to provide evidence of the steps I've taken so far, the serial number of my Karoo device, share FIT files etc etc. Now again, you're asking me these questions. How come these are not captured under my profile, where I'm sure you have access to.

These are I'd say the most basic of requirements Hammerhead as an organisation should be able to live up to. I've tried using my Karoo today, while spinning. It lasted almost 30 minutes before crashing.

I'll stop here. I do hope Hammerhead will invest some of its resources in growing up as a company and not just in developing a myriad of features, a lot of which - in my opinion - add little to no value. Perhaps also a half decent dashboard would be appreciated as well, or being able to configure the Karoo device from a computer which interfaces to the Karoo.

    cheers,

    Michiel

I'm following this thread as I have been encountering a similar battery issue for my Karoo1 - the unit is started with 100% to 98% battery, but shuts down on its own within ~10 minutes whether tracking a ride or sitting idle on the desk. Upon reboot, the battery still measures high 90% but will not maintain power to the unit. I've asked about a replacement battery after being offered a trade-in discount on a Karoo 2. This follows multiple exchanges with support including providing video footage of the failure condition upon request. I'm able to operate the unit with an external battery supply attached, but this is less than ideal given the size and weight of the Karoo 1 already. I recall early software releases that resulted in poor battery performance and were corrected by additional software patches. I have to wonder how much this and similar factors contributed to a premature battery issue on the unit. Please advise if there is a battery replacement alternative identified for the Karoo 1.

I take issue with the "ANSWERED" tag.

Michiel, I agree with Abishek, he needs more information. But to be frank there is almost NO procedure for you to provide it.

As I asked (unresponded to) , there is a need for something that will let us  help them to get a clearly defined problem that we may even be able to resolve before they need to be involved. My charging is, um , funky. I have only once run out of juice, but am hard pressed to feel comfortable in predicting the state of charge and consumption. Not a huge problem, but an annoyance.

Not sure if it is battery or software , and it would be nice to have a procedure to asses it  .

    I work around it
