Is a paid subscription required to use the MyWindsock extension data fields or is a subscription only required to use the web based interface and analysis?

  No. You can use a free account. The wind fields work with this account. Only if you want to use more functions of the premium account you have to pay.
  If you don't want a account at all, you can use headwind.
