Geopolitics lesson (unnecessary map regions)
Even if I start a ride in southeastern Finland ”near” the Russian border, it is extremely unlikely that I will need a map of Russia if I haven’t downloaded one already and my route does even go anywhere closer than 10 km from said border.
Today I spent over 15 min at the start of my ride dealing with this, I wasn’t able to get navigation to work without downloading a 600+ MB map of Northwest Federal District, with additional complications. First the map download started using mobile data without asking for confirmation which I cancelled because my K2 sim has a rather minimal data plan, then connecting to the internets via my phone as a hotspot, but the continued download just kept failing, at which point I rebooted the Karoo and continued the activity, at which point the download finally worked.
This must be (somewhat) new, since otherwise I would have had the map in question already from last summer. I understand that nearby areas can sometimes come in handy, but as a minimum I would expect the unit to just give a warning and allow me to proceed with the existing maps instead.
