Feature request: Add support for TymeWear breathing metrics
-
Would love to see this... I actually had pre-ordered the new Tyme Wear Vital Pro strap in the spring and it is finally set to arrive on Monday. I had also purchased a Garmin 1050 because it supported Xert and Tymewear. But I did not like it, and I went back to Karoo 3 now that Xert is available. I would love to see a plug-in for the Tyme Wear data!

This is super important to me (and to the future of data driven human performance). I even bought a Garmin 1050 in order to support using my TymeWear strap, but ther were just too many things I didn't like about the Garmin, and I'm back to Hammerhead, please get this integration to work. For starters just being able to pair and record the data would be great! (Surely someone can handle this with creating a simple extension?) But the ability to sync data with the TymeWear servers, and eventually having live data display on the Karoo would be amazing!

I'll second this.
Would really love to see the Tymewear-Sensors fully integrated with the ability to track breathing rate an minute ventilation live. I have no doubt that Hammerhead will do a better job than Garmin.
As Adam mentioned, connecting to both the breathing and HR sensors would be a helpful first step from my perspective: so that the breathing info would be directly integrated into the .fit file. As far as I know, the Tymewear App includes them to the developer section of the FIT-File -- as "tyme_minute_volume", "tyme_breath_rate" and "tyme_tidal_volume"
That would make things much easier; for instance, one could sync the activities to intervals and analyze them there.
Is this something Hammerhead is actively working on; or should we reach out to Tymewear for that matter?
Cheers and thanks!

@Jamie I have the strap and yes you can use their app to record your activity it will also connect to your bike's power meter and record that data as well.
However the strap has internal memory and doesn't actually need the app to record it will automatically record when you put it on. Most of the time I haven't been using the app because it's just an additional hassle If you're merely recording data. If you want to see your ventilatory information and use it for pacing your workout then you need the app in order to see it live.
Whether I do or don't use the app, I still have to download the fit file from Karoo and upload it to Tymewear. Tymewear then synchronizes the time stamps and merges the two files together so you have all of your GPS data is merged with the ventilatory data.
Garmin devices have a seamless integration where the strap will pair with the Garmin device and Garmin automatically syncs to the Tymewear server, I really hope we get that soon, surely it's possible with an extension.

@Norbert I have had some communication with Tymewear asking about Hammerhead integration. They actually referred me here to push the issue with Hammerhead.
I'm not sure how much Hammerhead actually has to do or if it's mostly work on TymeWears side to develop the extension that will work with the Hammerhead. In general I think the objective for us is just to make as much noise as possible for both companies and hopefully they'll make it a priority.

Hi all, thank you for sharing your suggestion with us.
I’ve passed your feedback along to the team. I understand the importance of this feature, and our team will be reviewing it. While I’m unable to provide a timeline for its potential implementation, it’s always valuable to hear what our riders are looking for. -
Hi, all. Our team has had discussions with Tymewear. To support their features on Karoo, Tymewear needs to create and submit a Karoo extension, similar to the Garmin IQ app they developed to support it on Garmin. They will also use our public API to enable connections between Karoo and Tymewear from their site.

Talked to Tymewear and there is no ETA on when they will have this available. The Hammerhead extension does not enable a solution for them to integrate it in a good way. Other platforms/brands have been more collaborative on the integration and will therefore be prioritised.
Simple speaking, we will not get an integration of Tymewear if Hammerhead is not doing it.

This is the reply from Tymewear:
Hi George,
I appreciate you have taken the time to send this through. We were interested in working with Hammerhead to directly integrate Tymewear. The new karoo extensions is a different approach and is unsupported.
We have not yet been able to verify that this would be able to deliver a complete and seamless integration that meets the expectations of customers. Our attention naturally shifts towards the platforms and brands who are actively collaborating with us for integration.
For hammerhead customers I understand this is not ideal as we anitipated that this would be sooner.

this is what I got from Tymewear
Thanks for your efforts with Hammerhead. I didn't mean to suggest that it is down to customers - rather when we are in dialogue with a brand and they also see strong customer interest, this helps significantly. There was strong customer interest for Tymewear integration with hammerhead and for native integration, they have decided.
Connect IQ has been around for a long time, it is well documented and there are skilled developers. As the main device for runners and cyclists, it is the first platform we need to support and the hurdles are lower. Hammerhead released their extension platform late last year and it works differently to Garmin. For example, with intervals.icu I expect a synchronisation to be available much sooner as they are interested in the data for the athlete audienceI realise that we have not served you as well as you would like. We are moving forward and making process, though have not done enough to demonstrate this or to actively resolve the specific issues you experience and recognise this is frustration. In my role, I continue to push for this on a daily basis and am sorry we are not yet where you need us to be. -
All in all very frustrating, I'm sure they could just build an extension and are blaming hammerhead.
Look how fully featured Ki2 from a single developer!Equally though I'm sure hammerhead could integrate it and would be a selling point for the karoo.
As of now the Tymewear is an island and not much use for training metrics as merge doesn't work either, starting to think it was a waste of money -
Bought both - the training is pretty meh, just wants me to do 11 hours of Z2 a week - fitness is already at elite according to them and I don't have that many hours to ride Z2. Total it wants me to 12.5hrs a week with no way to say how many I can do.
Not sure I'd go as far as calling it a training platform, merge of FIT files doesn't work, the AppleWatch app was DOA to the point they have now told me they have pulled it.
I just want my zones live on my Karoo so that I can see if I'm in the correct ones when riding.
