That's madness, I've seen multiple things about not calculating calories from HR, only from Power Meters.

I get Power Meters, but that doesn't work either.

I've got to be honest, I'm beginning to regret the purchase of the Karoo 2, I'll probably end up going back to my (original) Elemnt at this rate and wait for the Roam update. (which must be in the pipeline)

It's all well and good adding new features, but how about getting core functionality working first?

I totally agree with Dave Penson.
I have my Karoo 2 two weeks now and find out that there are a lot of imperfections if i compare with my old Garmin Edge 1000. The absence of calorie-data directly on the screen and even in the .fit file is a real shame for Hammerhead!!! I honestly regret the purchase and advised other friends NOT to buy the Karoo2 ! But who cares? Not Hammerhead because the (my) money is in the pocket!

I've had the K2 for 2 months now but have gone back to my garmin for this reason. The karoo is now gathering dust on the shelf.

    Hi All,

Thank you for posting your views and comments here. We do understand that the calorie data should be written into the FIT file. We can certainly assure you that this is something that we will work towards implementing.

As far as the timeline goes, we follow a structured workflow to pull an implementation into the software pipeline. We prioritize each feature based on the number of user requests, impact on current customer base, usability, market value, etc.  Because of all these considerations, we are unable to provide an exact timeline, but rest assured it is on our software roadmap for development.

So really, when it comes to 'basic functionality' we're pretty screwed?

you'd much rather prioritise headline grabbers like 'Climber Mode' to improve your 'Market Value', rather than things people have been asking for/about over a long period (I've seen posts about Estimate Calories from HR from months, if not years ago) but as we've already spent money, we're actually not worth keeping happy.

There is a reason Wahoo (usually) has a loyal customer base, I jumped ship thinking the grass was greener, it isn't.

Simples thinks that probably never see working. There are so many questions about Callories Eat/Drink Alerts that i put my Karoo in stand by of use. Back to Garmin 1030. When hammerhead work in a better Live Tracking/ beacon message, that is Just a live or not option, o can back to hammerhead. Please make change on your Marketing words and put that upgrade every 15 days but we don't listen you.

Sorry, but missing calories in the fit file and finding this basic functionality. LOL. Calculate it self. Starva eg calculates it for me. I think in the basis the K2 is better than the Garmin. And don't forgot that Garmin has years ahead in developing features as the karoo. And for the most calories is absolutely not main priority. Keep up the good work Hammerhead.

So we can have these as a data field from Power (i.e. displayed DURING a ride):
Calorie Burn Rate - Calories burned per hour this ride
Calories from Power - Calories burned this ride

Yet the Karro2 cannot write this to the fit file at the end of the ride ?

If the value is already determined surely it is a few lines of code to add that value to the fit file ?

It would be extremely beneficial to Hammerhead and their customers if we were able to see up front the functionality and updates being planned and vote on them. It is understandable that they cannot fix everything at once, but to have such a great navigation tool, with re-routing that beats Garmin hands down, that is seriously hampered by neglecting the basic functionality that we see and expect these days on most other cycling GPS devices, even fitness watches is such a let down.

I don't understand why this isn't implemented. Writing the few lines of code needed to write a value that is already calculated to the fit file surly must ve less work than answering questions about why this isn't done. Please add this soon!

    Hi Akhil,
Recently purchased the Karoo 2, coming from Garmin 1030P. Was VERY disappointed to see the lack of calories calc from HRM. This is a fundamental feature that is missing.
Today's response I got from you is saying such implementation due date is yet unknown. Very similar answer to your last replay, 7 month ago; Instead, last 2 updates are yet improving minors issues.

Guys, this feature is very important. How can I use the Karoo without it? .... and surely, can't recommend this device to my fellow riders unless you enable this missing feature ASAP.

    Thanks

    Akhil,

Whilst the new features are great, like the climbs page, ability to operate lights without the awful data page faff that there is on a Garmin Edge and we all understand that these help with new Sales, we really need to start seeing fixes for the basic functionality flaws:

    1) Not everyone can afford power meters, so we should be able to have a calorie calculation based on HR in the absence of any power data
    2) Rider Profile - I still cannot enter my actual height - yet the software allows many height values including 5'5, 5'6 and 5'8, yet still no 5'7 !!!??? - a very simple fix, surely.

Sadly, I don't think we'll see a fix for this anytime soon.

They've got our money and all the new features are targeted at ensnaring new marks (ahem, customers).

They can't really do a big flashy FB add about fixing problems or adding basic functionality.

With their acquisition, I was hoping that they'd prioritise existing customers.

    it appears not.

Is there any update on when calories might be available in the fit file? The dashboard and the karoo already display calories post ride. It seems that calories is already being calculated from the power meter data, the values only need to be added to the fit file.

I think you're wasting your breath with this, they're never gonna add it.
I switched to garmin after the removal of the di2 integration and never been happier, the screen might not be as good (ok, spoiler alert, it isn't as good) but I'm not watching films on it, so as long as its readable, I don't really care. After 2 years, it's clear that hammerhead/sram don't care, so personally, find a platform that does what you want.

Please, please, with sugar on top. Not including calories in the .fit files destroys my workflow and really makes me thinking about buying a bike computer from another brand. It is such a bummer. It can live with the fact that you don't export to Apple's Health via a native iOS app but at least give us a chance to do with third party tools like HealthFit. Please! 🙏

@Marco: While waiting for Hammerhead to fix this, there is a workaround on iOS using the app RunGap. I got them to integrate the unofficial link to Hammerhead dashboard last year and it calculates calories when it imports the .fit file. From there you can go almost everywhere. It is not ideal, but it does provide a solution.

@Noah thank you for the info! I did not know that RunGap supports it already. I had a very nice conversation with the programmer of HealthFit for iOS today and he provided a testflight build that, if you import external .FIT files without calories but with power data, will estimate the calories and therefore will contribute to Apple (Watch) Health rings. So, in the near future we will have at least two options. I am very excited 🥳 (So far, I used the Strava to Health export workaround but doing it that way you loose the gps track in the health data.)

This evening HealthFit Sofware for iOS is updated to implement calories from Karoo2.fit files and export to Apple Health…

I love it. In addition, HealthFit (https://apps.apple.com/de/app/healthfit/id1202650514) does this for every .fit file with power data but without Calories. So, you can import e.g. Xert data as well. No diversions via Strava necessary anymore and this way available gps tracks get into Apple’s Health as well 😀
