Pause ride + save battery?
Hi,
so I did some very long distance rides in the last days across Europe, had a Powerbank connected to the Karoo to have it constantly charge. It worked out although I had to recharge the powerbank more often than I would have liked to. One thing that really annoyed me was:
When I was taking a break and paused the ride, during a 1h pause the Karoo would go down about 8% charge while the display was switched off. Sensors like GPS even when manually paused are active and tracking the devices movement. To switch off the display I even had to use a workaround: It would turn on immediately because I was off route and it wanted me to navigate back to the route. Workaround was to remove the route completely and when I would start again, load the route again.
This cost me so much battery. Switching off the device was no option, because then the recording would have been lost (yes, I could have stopped the ride and then start a new one, but I wanted one complete ride and not several parts).
Am I overlooking something? To save battery it would really be helpful if I could just shut down the device and when restarting just go on with the active ride. Even better would be if the Karoo just stopped using so much battery in paused mode (i.e. disable sensors after 5mins and go into a sleep mode), but I suppose thats too much to ask...

If you turn the unit off, it has to reload the route when back on.
I would like the screen off button to basically put it in sleep mode. Can mods explain the best way for us to put to sleep mode when having a break on bikepacking trips when battery is an issue.
I would also like battery saver to be improved as far as i can see it just turns the screen of during a ride which is rubbish when trying to navigate. Please advise.

Indeed, the exaggerated battery consumption with the screen off and (verified) with all the sensors deactivated is excessive.
I have written a lot of emails to support and I have not gotten a valid answer, just reboot and reset the device infinite times.
The battery consumption is not uniform either, freshly charged in the first route you do normally has a lower consumption than in the successive ones.
No answer or solution from hammerhead. -
I have asked for this (i.e. standby mode) as well, several times. It's beyond ridiculous that this most basic feature is still missing, but I guess the majority of users still just take their bike out for a single consecutive ride for a few hours?
I've noticed that Hammerhead are sponsoring Badlands, so maybe there is hope...
