The sensors for crash detection are there, yes, but their main purpose on a cycling computer is not crash detection. They might be used for it, as Garmin and Coros and Sigma does, but Wahoo also does not use it for crash detection either.

What may come in the future may come in the future - or not, but right now it is not available at the Karoo. And your linked comment does not sound to me that Hammerhead plans to implement it natively (hence the reference to possible 3rd party extensions).

I don't see it as a 'must have'-feature. Personally I decided against using it (I use Garmin watches), as I don't want to shoulder the responsibility for my riding safety onto others. And a lot of people are buying Wahoo Elements and Karoos, so there may be reasons to believe, that for them it is also not a 'must have'-feature.

And smaller companies (and Hammerhead is very small compared to Garmin, even though it's part of SRAM) have to decide, for what 'can have'-features they use the resources they have to differentiate themselves enough in the market from the giant Garmin. They can't please everyone (even Garmin can't please everyone), and that is certainly disappointing for some users.

I had a few Garmins with a short break for Karoo 2, now I have Karoo again since January. I just don't close myself off to new things, I want to try it and know if it suits me. Karoo is quite ok but it also has very serious shortcomings and it doesn't seem that HH wants or can (they lack the strength and resources) to fix them. So who knows, maybe I will actually go back to Garmin next time. But now I have Karoo and I would like it to work as it should, not as it manages to.

Just to correct your comment to something more serious:

'.. but it has also very serious shortcomings for me ...'

    and in the end

'... I would like to work as I think it should, not as it manages to.'

I hope you pay attention to the small difference that makes a big difference in the end. And respect the requirements and wishes of all the other users you don't know and don't know about. It may be hard for you to believe, but not everyone has the same demands and wishes for a bike computer as you do. Like I said, just use your Garmin and you'll be happy again. You are not a user who will be happy with the Karoo. It's as simple as that. Just like I will never be happy with a Garmin (that's why I use a Karoo, Wahoo and Bryton). You have to know what you want and need and then buy the thing that comes closest. And not the one that is the furthest away from it, only to then badmouth everything because you are perhaps annoyed about the bad purchase (?).

    P.s: Hiking profile, seriously?

Are you kidding? What is the forum for? If the company knows better what is needed, then they should close the forum. Look how many problems and ideas people report and in most cases nothing happens despite the great support of the community. For the company, marking as 'answered' solves a problem that has not been solved.

All my reports were marked as 'solved' despite the problems not being solved.

    Dear Hammerhead Team,

The Karoo is arguably the best head unit on the market regarding UI and navigation. However, there is a critical safety gap that remains unaddressed: Native Incident Detection.

As solo rides are common among the community, having a system that leverages the Karoo's internal sensors (accelerometer/gyroscope) to detect a crash and automatically notify emergency contacts is no longer a "luxury" feature—it is a safety standard established by competitors.

I would like to formally request the implementation of an Incident Detection extension/feature that:

    1. Uses the internal gyroscope/accelerometer to detect sudden impacts or abnormal decelerations.

    2. Triggers an audible alarm on the device with a countdown (e.g., 30 seconds) to allow the rider to cancel false positives.

    3. Sends an automated SMS/Email via the connected smartphone (or cellular connection) with the rider's precise GPS coordinates.

Safety is a deciding factor for many cyclists when choosing an ecosystem. Implementing this would not only protect the users but also remove one of the few remaining reasons for riders to stick with other brands.

Does the community agree that this should be a priority for the next firmware updates?

💯 agree. It’s time Hammerhead to add a feature that is now standard with your biggest and leading competitor, with others following.
