New K2 user - Best way to stop/start during circular ride?
Hi Everyone,
What is the best way to stop a K2 for lunch break in a circular downloaded route?
Today I stopped riding at lunch stop and turned the screen off to put unit in my pocket (didn't pause ride as auto pause is on), when I started cycling again, K2 was showing the route but screen kept turning off after a few minutes.
I went back into Routes, selected the correct route and pressed ride but still screen turned off. In the end I turned off K2 and restarted, it then tried to resurrect the route and took so long, I selected the route manually again and all was good, though ride was broken into two rides instead of one circuit.
On a previous circular ride, I had pressed Pause at the lunch stop and then had difficulty getting the route going again when I restarted riding and ended up selecting the route again from the Route menu which also gave me two rides instead of one circuit.
My old non-gps computer simply stops and starts when I do and records as a single ride.
The K2 is my first experience with a GPS bike unit and I got it for its impressive nav functions and so far very pleased with the accuracy of route following.
Many thanks,
-
Sounds to me like you have accidentally turned battery save mode on, which will only turn the screen on when TBT directions are present.
Sounds to me like you are messing around unnecessarily, you can set the screen to turn off with inactivity anyway, just rock up at the cafe, autopause will kick in and the screen will turn off after say 5 mins, then just cycle again.
Just make sure you set autopause to say 3 mph, as gps has drift setting autopause to low can cause the device to keep stop - starting just like garmins.

Many thanks for your prompt and useful reply.
Maybe I had accidentally turned on battery saver mode and it would have cleared after the restart. I have also now set the autopause to 3mph from the default 0mph.
I won't mess with the unit at my next cafe stop tomorrow and hopefully it will continue the ride as expected and I will end up with a single ride file.
There is a lot of info available on the many functions but not much on the basic user steps for a newby, like my cafe stop. Obvious if you know but initially confusing if you don't, hence my actions at my couple of stops - I've stopped, so do I need to press pause? I'm putting a touchscreen unit in my pocket, do I need to turn off the screen, lock the screen or do nothing?
Thanks again for your help. -
No, if you manually pause there is always the risk of forgetting to start again. If you are putting in your pocket there is a risk of accidentally selecting something, might be worth locking the screen.
