Ride ends prematurely

I did a 65-70mi club ride yesterday. I started my Karoo2 and rode to the start, about 10mi. At the the meeting point I added the route as usual and rode. When I got home I ended the ride as usual. Throughout the ride, the time counter was running. When I looked at Strava the ride was 8.45mi. The Karoo app showed the same. When I looked at the device screen, the ride had the 8.45 mi info BUT the map shows the entire ride. I had issues initially with the Karoo not recordings rides, enough so that I said if it happened one more time I would return it while I was still in the return window. Now I am not....
