Karoo 3 - Dynamic Map Offset: Stop centering the Chevron when using Data Fields
Hi Hammerhead Team,
I am a Karoo 3 user and I’d like to provide feedback on a crucial aspect of the navigation experience: the map centering and Chevron positioning.
Currently, the Chevron (the arrow representing my position) remains fixed in the center/lower-third of the screen, regardless of whether I am using data fields or the Drawer. This creates a significant usability issue:
-
Dead Space: When data fields are active at the bottom, they overlap the map. Since the Chevron doesn't shift upwards to compensate, the visible "path ahead" is drastically reduced.
-
Poor Visibility: At high speeds or in complex intersections, I can see a lot of the path I’ve already traveled (which is useless), but very little of what’s coming next.
-
Drawer Interference: Even when pulling up the Drawer, the position of the Chevron doesn't adjust, making navigation difficult while monitoring data.
My Suggestion: Please implement a Dynamic Map Offset. The map should automatically shift the Chevron's position upwards when data fields are present, ensuring that the "useful" part of the map (the road ahead) is always maximized.
This is a standard feature in other head units (Garmin/Wahoo) and is currently one of the biggest pain points for Karoo users who want to balance data and navigation effectively.
Best regards,
Pablo
