Lost ride

I rode 15km from home to start of group ride so as usual I pressed start and navigated to the start point of the group ride. at the end of the group ride, the Karoo stops recording and loses the record of the ride, so no chance to record the ride as I rode home at the end. I find this very annoying. my Garmin didnt do that - it let me continue. How can I retrieve the ride or is it permanently lost?
