New Climber Color Question

What is the rationale for the gradient number in the climber drawer turning white over 11%? Personally I would prefer black text as I find the white color hard to read. When I am climbing over 11% gradients, this becomes another element in the suffering.

  Contrast. Black wouldn't be great to read on the relatively dark red.
