Automatically enable Strava Live Segments along a planned route

Hi Hammerhead Team, I would like to suggest an improvement to the Strava Live Segments integration on Karoo. I plan most of my routes in Komoot and then navigate them on my Karoo. When riding in an unfamiliar area, I usually don’t know beforehand which Strava segments I will encounter. Currently, Strava Live Segments are only really useful if I have previously starred or manually enabled the relevant segments. Nearby Segments help somewhat, but having to select and enable them individually before a ride defeats much of the purpose. My ideal workflow would be: Plan route in Komoot → sync route to Karoo → start riding → Karoo automatically detects relevant Strava segments along the route → Live Segment screen appears when approaching a segment. Alternatively, it would already be a major improvement if Karoo could analyze the loaded route before starting and offer something like: “Enable Strava Live Segments along this route” This could download and cache the relevant segments before the ride, so a continuous internet connection would not be necessary. I think this would make Strava Live Segments significantly more useful, especially when travelling or riding routes in unfamiliar areas. It would also fit very well with Karoo’s strong navigation and third-party route integration. Please consider adding this functionality in a future Karoo OS update. Thanks!

  How should multiple overlapping segments be displayed or which one should be picked? At least where I ride, the routes are plastered with strava segments...

  And AFAIR Strava API does not allow 3rd party sw browsing through segments database and only allows access to starred segments.

  Good points. Regarding overlapping segments, I don’t think Karoo would necessarily have to display all of them. It could prioritize starred segments first and then, for example, the most popular or relevant segment.

  Regarding the API limitation: Karoo already provides “Nearby Segments”, so there seems to be some mechanism for discovering segments that I haven’t starred manually. My suggestion would essentially be to extend this concept to a loaded route – e.g. “Enable relevant segments along this route”.

  Even if automatic detection of every Strava segment isn’t technically possible due to API restrictions, a route-based version of the existing Nearby Segments feature would already be a big improvement.
