Does the K2 actually keep recording while in a "Paused" state? Dashboard shows complete track.
AnsweredHad my K2 for just over a week now, and of four rides I have only had one successfully recorded. Thank goodness I'm still running my Edge 830 alongside! OK, my question:
On two rides, I've managed somehow to pause my ride and not notice for several miles. After I noticed, I was able to Resume and then complete/stop/save the ride successfully. Both rides uploaded to the Dashboard, and exported to Strava and RideWithGPS. As expected, in both Strava and RWGPS both tracks showed a straight line between where I paused and where I resumed. Normal expected behavior for this situation, so far.
However, things look different in Dashboard. It shows the entire track, with all my turns and deviations, during the paused period, as if it continued recording even when it was paused. Which is a good thing if true! However, I don't see a way to view the raw FIT data inside the Dashboard to verify, and when I export to Fit File Viewer or other tools, the tool either chokes on a missing value or displays as it does in Strava - a straight line between the two points. It's as if the K2 and Dashboard have a "FIT+" format they log internally, then calculate and trim out paused data when they export back to a regular "FIT" file.
Here's a screengrab of the segment in question, highlighted in yellow. Notice that it's an accurate track, not just a straight line. In the elevation profile below, the area circled is a sudden jump of 13 minutes in time, which also jumps the marker on the track from the top of the highlighted section to the bottom. In other words, my paused segment displays correctly but I can't trace it along the timeline to see timestamps.
Has anyone seen this behavior? More importantly, if what I'm seeing is correct, then is there a way to retrieve the complete recorded track, not just the "paused" calculated track?
Thanks!
Jim

Hi Jim, your findings are correct!! Our location will be tracked accurately even in Paused state but this doesn't affect the Ride summary or data as it consider the Pause time. Only the ride trace will be considered in Pause state. At the same time, in Strava and RWGPS, it will show as as a straight line
I have shared this with the Product team to see if this is an expected behaviour or not. I will let you know when I get an update from them.
You can see the complete and accurate track on the Dashboard but if you upload it to other platforms, you may not be able to see the Pause time is tracked on the map accurately as in Dashboard.

Hi Jim, As of now, this is considered as an expected behaviour.
Dashboard shows a complete track because we are adding to the user trace polyline all the time, even when we’re paused. During Pause or Auto-pause, we do not write to the FIT file (speed or current location) which is what we upload to third party platforms, so they will show a straight line between two pause points.
