Dead battery

I'll jump in as nobody else has yet. From previous experiences folks here have had with battery charging, try the following:

    - With K2 power off, charge the device for a FULL 24 hours whether it shows fully charged after less than that or not.

    - Try a different USB charger with at least a 1.2A DC output current capability. Also try another cable between the charger and the K2, if detachable. Some chargers/cables are not particularly robust for high current demand situations, like a dead to near-dead battery.

    - Factory reset the K2 and do the 24 hour charge cycle again. Log into your Hammerhead account to restore your preferences etc to the unit as it reboots.

    Cheers!

    Hey Neil,

Sorry for not getting to you sooner.

Bob is correct on these workarounds. Thanks for pitching in here, Bob.

Besides, let me put across complete steps for the battery calibration:

    1. Let the battery die (run to flat)- (To drain the battery fast, you can start a ride on your Karoo and leave it on the table)
    2. Power back on
    3. Repeat  power-on attempts until it will not turn on (doesn't even show boot animation - 0%)
    4. 4. Charge to 100% WITHOUT powering on the Karoo (generally at least 6 hrs, dep. on battery)
    1. Once at 100% THEN power it on.

Follow the step 2&3 as it is. A simple power OFF and Power ON would not work

Let me know if that helps. It will be great if you can share your findings at support@hammerhead.io quoting the issue from here.

    First attempt...

    Ok where I am upto

No need to let it power down, it does that itself very quickly

Now I have charged it up all night managed to switch it on and restore all the settings (wifi etc)
This was still connected to the power source and was showing full power, it updated automatically and was looking like it was working ok.

So in order to attempt to download your required file, I disconnected it from the power to connect to the computer, it has discharged again and has become a dead unit.

Now all it is doing is flashing on and off displaying the Hammerhead logo, it is attached to the laptop, but i cannot get anything off it. When reconnected back to the power, the battery is showing 4%, then 45%, 43%, 47% etc

I guess its time for a second attempt, trouble is the screen is blank when no power is connected, so how can I tell when the battery has fully discharged

No via a mains charger, I’m trying to connect it to a laptop in order to upload the debug files

    Definitely, Lee.

We are still assisting Neil with the workarounds to ensure his issue is resolved. If the unit needs replacement, we will go ahead with it.

However, once the issue is resolved (either by workaround or replacement), I will definitely leave a note here.

    Hi all

Update for you, the team couldn't troubleshoot the unit remotely, so they have replaced it with a new unit.

    Thanks to all !
