Karoo 2 stuck on mount

I'm having a similar problem. I have to apply so much force to rotate the unit to the right - clockwise - that I'm sure I'll snap the mount if I keep doing this. Thankfully I can rotate it left (anticlockwise) and although it's still stiff and a bit of a struggle to remove, it doesn't feel like I'm going to snap the mount this way, at least not for the time being. This problem has been getting worse in the 4 months I've had it.

Hi, I actually found a solution - just take a Q-tip, spray a bit of car polishing wax on it (ArmorAll works really well for carbon surfaces, too) and apply it to the inside of the horseshoe-shaped cutout on the Karoo. Works so well, in fact, that use of a tether is advised ;-)

Thanks Heinz, I'll give it a go. Now where did I put that tether... :-)

On a side note ... can I ask what the point of the tether is?

...to keep the Karoo attached to your stem/handlebar in case of a crash or a really bumpy road that causes the unit to dismount all by itself :-)

    ...or call it lanyard...

That's what I thought. So, my point is, if the Karoo2 mount is efficient why do we need something else to keep the computer  from being lost ?? I have never had a bike computer detach from any mount and I have ridden over some very rough roads in my time!

I didn't bother with it until I put wax on the cutout to smoothen the dismounting of the unit. It did the job almost too well, and seeing as I had the Karoo turn itself almost out by itself on a really rough road, it's better to be safe than sorry, at 400 euros. Also serves as a theft deterrent when taking a coffee break ;-)

It strikes me that the tether, or lanyard, is supplied so that when the mount becomes too stiff requiring you to ease it with car wax, the mount is no longer secure so the Karoo will fall off when you cycle over a bump. They think of everything, these Hammerhead people :-)

Not a Karoo but things can happen: https://cyclingtips.com/2022/04/this-photographer-picked-up-pogacars-crashed-flanders-power-meter/

If you don’t have Armorall or something similar handy, rubbing the relevant parts of the computer and the mount gently with a candle should work as well.

@ Sean Taplin. Not sure if I should laugh or cry at your response. (I'll laugh for now :) The more I check out the community posts, the more I think I should never have bought a Karoo2

@ Steve MacMillan not quite at that stage yet (only 4 months in...) but it does seem that it would be fair to say the Karoo 2 is at the advanced beta testing stage. My main issue is GPS drop outs, thankfully occasional but really irritating.

But I've bought the damned thing now so best stick with it :-)

The point of the tether is to keep your Karoo attached to your bars when the supplied mount breaks, as I have seen many written reports and photographic evidence of in this forum and in the FB Karoo users group.

@ Stanley Sun So, the mount is as useless as the Karoo2 unit. What a complete waste of money!

I have the same problem and I already broke a mount while trying to remove the Karoo. The mount is a major problem and in my opinion, they should just switch to the Garmin mount completely. Way better compatibility and proven design. My wahoo never fell out of the mount and was always easy to remove.

For the first time since May 2021 my Karoo2 popped right off the Garmin adapter on a ride today. The tether saved any damage what-so-ever so I highly recommend using it. I was surprised to see that it was the actual HammerHead-supplied adapter for my out front Garmin mount that had separated from the actual head unit. The adapter was still firmly in place on my Garmin mount but the K2 itself was hanging on the tether strap. And this on the same rural paved roads I ride every time I'm out. Another up-vote for a better mounting system, PLEASE!

I had to spray dry lube on it the bottom of the Karoo 2.  It seems to click out easier now. I'm not sure why it gets so much harder to turn as the wear should make it easier to turn.
