How to install Dashboard APK on your Karoo
With approval from Hammerhead, I'm posting an APK for Dashboard which I created from an off-the-shelf tool that can be sideloaded onto your Karoo. I've only tested it on my K2 but I believe it can be used with the K1. It works well but not perfectly. The UI is a bit off but functional for basic use. (I did not test full functionality.)
-
Why do this? Out of laziness and a desire to see more data from my rides. I review my ride right after I finish and would prefer to see it on one device, rather than switching to my phone to use the Dashboard WebAPK.
-
It's a temporary measure until HH develops a fully expanded ride dataset for the device
-
One nice feature: you can convert a ride to a route directly from the Karoo and it will sync to the Routes tab. It works. Saving the name of the route is a bit tricky, but doable.
-
Download the APK to your PC or Mac: https://www.dropbox.com/s/cyqd8fnlku9gah7/Karoo2 Dashboard_1_1.0.apk?dl=0:

Installation: Rather than provide sideloading instructions here, head on over to DCRainmaker: https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2021/02/how-to-sideload-android-apps-on-your-hammerhead-karoo-1-karoo-2.html
When you're done you'll find Dashboard on the Karoo's built-in app screen (i.e., Rides, Routes ,etc):

Note: You only need to log-in once. When leaving the app use exit or the back button but don't sign off. I'm sure I missed some things. Please let me know.
Hope you like it.

To install the Dashboard APK on your Karoo, follow these steps:
-
Download the APK: Obtain the Dashboard APK file from a reliable source. This could be from the official website of the application, a trusted app store, or another authorized distributor.
-
Allow Installation from Unknown Sources: On your Karoo device, go to "Settings." Navigate to "Security" or "Privacy," depending on your device. Enable the option that allows installation from unknown sources. This ensures you can install applications not directly from the official app store.
-
Transfer the APK to Your Karoo: Connect your Karoo to your computer using a USB cable. Transfer the downloaded Dashboard APK file to a location on your Karoo's storage.
-
Locate the APK on Karoo: Use a file manager app on your Karoo to navigate to the directory where you transferred the APK file. Tap on the APK file to initiate the installation process.
-
Install the APK: Follow the on-screen instructions to install the Dashboard application. This typically involves confirming permissions and agreeing to terms and conditions.
-
Complete the Installation: Once the installation is complete, you should see the Dashboard app icon in your app drawer or on your home screen.
-
Launch the Dashboard: Tap on the Dashboard icon to open the application. Follow any setup or login procedures as required by the app.
-
Configure Settings (if necessary): Depending on the application, you might need to configure settings or log in with your account details to use all features of the Dashboard.
Please note that these instructions provide a general guideline, and the steps may vary slightly depending on your Karoo model and the Android version APK it runs. Always ensure you download applications from trusted sources to avoid security risks.

Nice workaround honestly, having everything on the Karoo itself sounds way more convenient than switching devices. The route conversion feature is a pretty cool touch too. Also reminds me of how people sideload games like Stick war lagacy just to get more out of their device.

Thanks for sharing this, Seth. It’s a really useful workaround for people who want to view ride data directly on the Karoo without switching devices. If anyone has login or display issues after sideloading, clearing the app cache and restarting the device may help. Hopefully Hammerhead adds native Dashboard support in a future update, but this looks like a great temporary solution.
