Karoo 2 Charging Port heating up
Answered-
Depends on your interpretation of "overheat". If the device is untouchably hot there could be a problem. Batteries have a natural internal resistance and heat increase during the charging process is the by-product. Fast charging will make this worse and constant fast-charging shortens the battery life.

Hammerhead actually states -
https://support.hammerhead.io/hc/en-us/articles/360058770653-Charging-Karoo-2
ONLY CHARGE WITH CHARGERS THAT SUPPORT 5V AND AS LOW AS 1.25A
- Karoo 2 does not support charging over 5V. The maximum current flow is 2.5 Amps but only during 0-30% charging. Regular charging is around 1.25A so high amp or high voltage chargers could be dangerous or damage the product.

I guess HH don't have a clue or revise their links.

I also have problems with overheating, i got even burn marks on my Karoo2, battery maximal charging fell low to 80% but recovered.
I singled out the charging cable as cause and especially the connection to the Karoo2. The original cable overheats, and so does the cable for my smart-phone, which is really high-quality.
But i got no problems with a no-name charging cable, Karoo2 gets completely charged and stays cool.So this seems to be an issue not related to dirt or water in the charging-port but to the cable and very likely to the quality of the cable, in this case higher quality is not better.
Did anyone else had different charging behaviour depending on the cable, especially problems with overheating ?
Does Hammerhead provides cables, that maybe charge at a lower rate as the original cable, does that even make sense to reduce the charging rate ?
What should i do with the damaged Karoo2, at the moment it seems to work fine, but it surely has taken an hit.
For sure i won't use the original cable anymore, because it has partially melted. -
Today discovered the same problem: excessive overheated USB-C plug while charging. I noticed the original cable had heat marks as well. I was using a three port USB charger with max 2.4A per usb output.
Changed the charger to a 1 amp Apple charger; now the USB-C plug feels normal and charges normally.
Still using the original cable because it has a better grip holding the USB-C connector than other cables.Really scared me though, because I really love my Karoo 2 and would hate to see it burned or broken by something silly as "look out for which charger you use!".
Makes me wonder as well: why doesn't my iPhone or Garmin Varia make a problem of using a charger which is capable of delivering 2.4 amps? Anyone knows the answer to that?
