Hi Kenneth, Sorry to hear about the trouble pairing your phone to the Karoo. We will help you with this.
Before we dive in, I have a quick question for you. Do you have the battery saver mode on your Karoo 2 under the "Settings" App enabled? If yes, please disable it for the Companion App to work.
Also, please make sure that you are following the same steps as mentioned in the below article:

Having the same exact issue. Issue is the when my Galaxy S10e is found by Karoo, the screen with the code flashes so fast, I can't see the code.

Also, sometimes it hangs and never seems to find my phone.

I tried clearing Karro Companion app cache and that also did not solve the problem

    Hi Kenneth and Oleg,
Could I request you to please uninstall the Karoo companion app from the phone and try reinstalling it again? Please let us know if this helps.
If the above workaround fails, please share the android version of your Galaxy S10, so I can consult this with the team.

Karoo Companion cannot find the Karoo 2. Smartphone BT works however and it regularly pairing with other devices. The phone is a XIAOMI MI 8 Lite with MIUI 12.0.3 global.

No problems on other smartphone: Karoo 2 is quickly detected

In my case, on Samsung Galaxy S10e with Android 10, re-install of the companion app didn't seem to help.

The screen with a pairing code flashed for a fraction of a second and was gone without staying on.

I did, however, made it work somehow by toggling the search buton on and off, quitting the app, etc - again not sure the exact sequence that made it work but all of a sudden I saw the code and was able to pair my phone.

Looks like there are some stability issues with the companion app that need more QA on different devices

Make sure location is active on your phone. That worked for me

I tried all the possible solutions here and the app says it is paired with my phone but still can't get notifications. Anybody else having the same issue?

I've got my Karoo 2 yesterday and wanted to pair it with my Samsung Galaxy Note3 (Android 5.1). I followed exactly the steps described in the support article.

When my phone finds the Karoo 2 I can see the pin for about one second then it disappears on the Karoo 2. After that the Karoo 2 nevertheless shows "connected" for a short period of time (approx. 2-3s) then the "PHONE" slider deactivates itself (it is greyed out) and activates itself a second later again ("Searching..."). I have no chance to enter the pin on my phone because the time is much too short and it says "No communication possibe with Karoo 2". I can repeat this behaviour every time I try to pair both devices.

De- and reinstalling the app didn't help neither activating GPS. The battery save mode on the Karoo 2 is off. My phone connects without any problem to other Bluetooth devices, e.g. my headset, tablet, a Windows 10 notebook or my Bryton Rider.

When looking at the permissions of the Companion app and comparing it with the Bryton Active App (which is able to show notifications on my Rider 420) I can see that at least some permissions are different: There is no permission for access to SMS and the permission to prevent the standby mode is missing too.

AFAIK there are two Bluetooth related permissions on Android which can be declared:

    1. BLUETOOTH: Allows applications to connect to paired bluetooth devices
    2. BLUETOOTH_ADMIN: Allows applications to discover and pair bluetooth devices

I'm not an app developer but maybe this problem could be permission related?

So...is anyone from Hammerhead looking at this forum string?  I just got my Karoo 2.  I'm able to pair my iphone with the Karoo 2 but cannot get the Companion app to find the Karoo 2.  So, can someone from Hammerhead answer the many queries on what needs to be done to pair the Companion App to the Karoo 2?

I had the same problem; I could not pair Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite with Karoo 2. Companion App was searching endlessly...

When I enabled the location on the phone, as advised by Kenneth Cuda, it miraculously works!!!

Hi,  You don’t need to pair the Karoo 2 to get live tracking working, it just needs an active internet connection. This can be a phone hotspot or could be a SIM connection if you had a SIM installed in the Karoo.

I have just cycled with my K2 connected to my iPhone hotspot and it live tracked all the way happily (for 4 hours).  Now in fact I had the iPhone paired as well, but that just allows alerts to come from the phone to the K2 screen.

    I hope that clarifies things?

Hi - no I didn't turn off the wifi on the phone, but of course there wasn't any connection that way, it had switched to the cell connection for data.  I think that if you can get the Karoo to connect to the phone hotspot then it should work for you too.

    Thanks Jeff.

I had been looking for several days to find out why live tracking doesn't work while I do receive messages and apps on my (huawei)mobile. With your answer it works also now. On the hammerhead-site I didn't find this solution.

Thanks Ali for your quick and helpful reaction. I have seen it earlier and it's clear in the article. But with a new device there are so many points tot remember where you can find what.

Hi All, I had the same Issue, my Samsung Galaxy S10e (on android 11) didn't recognise the Karoo 2 (and vice versa).

So after reading through the posts here's how I solved it:

    • reinstalled the app
    • allowed the use of GPS during usage of the app (allthough I don't see why this should have to be on)

    STILL didn't work...

    • turned on mobile data and GPS (bluetooth was already on)

    retried... and stuff works :)

Conclusion: You have to allow everything and turn all dials on.

Kinda wished this wasn't the case though. I'd like to see a solution where at least GPS didn't need to be on :/ HammerHead? Could you guys address this issue please? Apart from being a drain on the cell-phone battery I have more problems with privacy issues on the phone side. Thx

*Edit* I read the discussion mentioned in the link earlier, I understand now but still disagree and fail to see why Bluetooth would need GPS. I guess the usage of tech comes at the price of privacy blurring...

Hi Frederik, very glad to hear about the solution but it might not be possible to disable the GPS as that's standard behavior.

Reference: Why do I need to turn on location services to pair with a Bluetooth device?

Same issue - new Karoo2, pairing with Samsung S10e (is the Samsung thing a theme here?) both Karoo companion app just hang with 'searching'..

Locations is enabled, Battery Optimization for the companion app is disabled, BT is on etc.

Is it necessary to go thru the process on the phone app every time you turn on the (previously paired) Karoo 2 in order to receive notifications?  If so, it would be most convenient if the K2 could be updated to just 'find' and connect to the phone.

No,  you should go thru "phone pairing" only once.

ps. my experience shows that Karoo app doesn't need to be started on the phone. I am receiving notification even without app running. But in the same time, occasionally I don't receive notifications even with app running :D

Bottom line - it seems to me still a bit unstable solution
