I'm assuming by "memory", you mean on-board map storage space?

It's a bit of an inconvenience, but I would just download the first couple of states' maps to begin your trip and then - as your journey progresses - remove the states you've travelled through and download the next few to complete the next leg of your journey. I'm assuming you will travelling through places that have adequate wi-fi/cellphone coverage to do this?

The actual route you follow should remain unaffected by this as I would expect it to be stored completely independently of the maps.

Well, the route doesn't even load up, with no States saved. The link on the unit for the Route is a greyed out description and when I click on it, it brings me back to the offline maps page with the list of countries/States and a pop-up at the bottom of the screen says not enough space.

If the bootloader was unlocked couldn't we repartition the space?

I'm not sure if there are upper limits on route size but if your route is taking you across 7 states, it's possible you have hit that upper limit.

I would consider breaking the route down into chunks and just loading the maps you need for that leg of the journey.

I have no idea about the bootloader and repartitioning.

Soooo I guess I should wait for someone from tech support to answer this question.

Sorry for the delay in the response. As of now, it is not possible to expand the space for offline maps on Karoo 1 and karoo 2. If you create a  Route that is across 7 states, it is required to download the offline maps of all these regions and the available memory could be a constraint. With that in mind, we would suggest you plan and create the Route accordingly.

That's a shame. I guess I should plan my once in a lifetime trip around the type of device I have 🙄 jeez... imagine if a company was making a device that was planned around the riders and it was built with a nice display mainly for the mapping and upgradability in the future, wouldn't that be great.

Dustin, we wish it was possible to expand the memory but the hardware limitation on Karoo 1 does not allow it. Karoo 2 is 32GB, which is something we improved after the feedback from our Karoo 1 riders.

If the bootloader didn't get locked during an update then it would be possible to reallocate the memory. I have plenty of other apps on the device so there's plenty of available space, just not able to utilize it now that you locked it.
