K2 data to Strava not the same
AnsweredI rode indoors and use the K2 to record this ride. Everything went fine during the ride. I have the K2 set to auto pause if MPH=0. I spent 1hr 4sec riding according to ride time on K2. I did not stop or pause at any time. I uploaded the ride to Strava and Strava shows the ride as 59m 40 sec long. There is NO way that I paused for 4 seconds, let alone 24 seconds. I pedalled continuously for that 1hr.
Why is there a difference in work out times? I looked at my dashboard version of this ride and it also shows 1h. This is not something that happens on my Garmin, like, ever. The only thing that happened during the ride is that I got two notifications from my phone that showed up on the K2. I cleared them immediately. It did not seem to stop my total elapsed ride time.
As it is cold and gets dark early, I ride indoors a lot. Is there a setting that I need to change?
Thanks in advance and sorry if this is a known issue already.

Sorry for the delay in our response. This could happen because of two reasons.
> If there is any inaccuracy in recordings or while automatically calibrating the wheels using the speed sensor.
> The other reason for the discrepancy could be due to the fact that different platforms use different algorithms to calculate the values out of the FIT files and the issue you are facing is more likely to be this.

Just got my Karoo 2 and I am having the same issues indoors with Strava that never occurred with Garmin, namely that Strava is reporting the total duration time from the .fit file vs. the actual moving time. In my case it's the difference between 1:23:52 and 1:18:45, so my average gets messed up. My Dashboard correctly reports the 1:18 time. Using Golden Cheetah shows the 1:23:52 as "Duration", so I don't understand why this isn't reporting correctly in Strava when it was correctly reported from my old Garmin. I don't see my issue as an algorithm problem but something with the category naming in the .fit file? My real concern is that this will occur also in the spring when I actually get to ride outside again.

Hari,
Why would the total TIME for the ride be dependent on the speed sensor on the trainer? I start riding, then hit "start", continue to ride, hit "stop" and then stop riding.
As for Strava, I have not seen a discrepancy in TIME for indoor workouts. (or outdoor for that matter). Distance and elevation they prioritize the speed sensor (over GPS) for distance and the elevation from the head unit (over GPS). There is nothing about TIME being off.

@Byron @Gordon: We would like to investigate the issue further and we are trying to get more clarity around this before jumping to conclusions. We also had a bug similar to this issue and we just need to confirm if the issue you are facing is related to it.
@Byron: I have created a support ticket requesting the FIT file of the affected activity and the serial number of your Karoo 2. I request you follow-up on the ticket with the requested details.

I'd be happy to send my FIT files as well (I have a few...). Strava lists MOVING time (which is always less time than the actual workout on the trainer), but since I am on a trainer, I don't know what that means. I never hit 0 mph during the workout (I don't think). I have auto pause on. Do I have to turn it off when I am on the trainer? If so, can't so make it so an indoor profile has that set automatically off?
If it is the FIT file, is there a way that you guys can make it work with Strava so there isn't a discrepancy?

I am having the same issue, but much bigger time difference. 12 minutes difference between the result on K2 and what is showing on strava for a 1 hour ride. Speed is about right, but moving time is missing. Indoor trainer ride with speed and cadence sensors. Could it be that it is because gps is on? I went cycling outdoors, perfect match.

One hopefully helpful in troubleshooting this issue is I've just discovered is that it seems to be related to whether GPS is turned on or off. I have until last week been riding solely indoors on my trainer. I turned off GPS so I wouldn't see the crazy map circuit around my house. Last week it got warm enough for a couple of rides outside, and my numbers seemed to be pretty much OK, with Strava reporting moving time accurately vs. total time whereas before I was getting total time showing up as moving time. As a corollary note It would be really nice if the profile (say road Vs. indoor) contained the GPS setting rather than having to manually turn it on and off in elsewhere in settings each time...

So I just did an indoor ride yesterday with GPS turned on, and made sure to get off the bike for a few min to set a total vs moving time difference. The map and data appear in the dashboard, but in Strava it's still reporting total time in place of moving time, and there's no map, so it looks the same as indoors without GPS...

@James @Bryon: Your findings are correct as the issue is more prominent for indoor rides. For outdoor rides, the GPS data will be available and the data on Strava will be more in line with what is recorded on the Karoo.
We agree that linking the Profiles App with Sensors, GPS settings, etc could be a valuable enhancement. Right now, I do not have a concrete timeline to share with you but we would like to see this on the Karoo somewhere down the line. -
I'm getting a similar issue. Karoo2 record fine, Garmin record fine, both upload to Training Peaks fine - but when the Karoo uploads the file to Strava it's all over the place. For a 90 minute ride the mileage can be 2-5 miles different, different on the timing. Making it hard to transition off the Garmin to be honest.
