Garmin Varia Radar Problem
AnsweredI use a Garmin Varia Radar and it has been working fine until today. Instead of the normal stripe down the left side with small cars moving up and audio alerts, today I only get a thin line (like 1 or 2 pixels) up the side. The line has the correct color but doesn't have any width so no cars are shown. Also, the audio alerts are missing which is the most important thing. I tried restarting the Garmin and the Karoo 2 and unpairing and pairing and nothing changes.

Well you learn something new everyday! So when I wear gloves (with the e-tips for touch screens) it's very easy to touch somewhere on the screen when you are trying to push buttons, swipe, etc. So I must have muted the radar without knowing. This setting is remembered through power off and on btw. There is no real indication of where to touch to mute either.
I can see the usefulness of this though. When I stop for coffee the radar keeps beeping as cars go by on the street. It will be useful to mute the radar now that I know.
Thanks!

I've done the same and sat in traffic trying to figure out what happened. There are NO DETAILED instructions with this computer, so we have to waste a lot of time trying all the buttons, etc. I have another mystery, the profile of a head light with light rays coming out appears on my unit head banner. I figured it must be indication that by Vara Radar hooked up, BUT after an hour or so it disappears, yet my Vara is still hooked up. Who knows what it means, certainly I can't find it on the Hammerhead site. Not fun!!!

Hi All, yes it looks like the radar was muted. You can see the detailed instructions here: https://support.hammerhead.io/hc/en-us/articles/360052473053--Varia-Radar-integration-

I still think that the process of muting the radar is far too easy to accidently change, and it is far too difficult to see it has been muted. This could be dangerous to the rider.
My simple suggestion is to remove the mute, after all it is much easier to turn off the radar if you are waiting at the roadside and don't want to hear the beeps. Otherwise there should be a dialogue - Are you sure etc..

The muting took a while to figure out. Instructions are there , but you find them when you have problems, not before. It's hard to get off mute even when you know how it works. Screen trigger just not easy. Could have been solved by and instructional vid, but that's not their style. They seem to have plenty of space for legal warnings, but no context related help.
Muting sometimes seems to be triggered without intent . ? power saving, disconnecting, inadvertent screen touches ? Other than the lights not being part of it , It's the best implementation out there, but is shy of full maturation.

@Ali that instruction page is less than clear - I accidentally muted my radar during a ride the other day and it was frustrating trying to figure out what happened. Reading the text on the linked page just says muting is possible. Upon review now I see that there's a GIF showing the place to tap on the screen but some text stating that you tap the top left of the screen (or radar icon) to mute/unmute would be very helpful for others, I'm sure.
I went through the entire settings page twice and scoured the web before eventually intuiting the solution. Very aggravating. I still love the product but that point could be clarified better for new users. -
It‘s great (but only when you know it!). I ran into the same issue and wanted to file a bug but when checking this forum I found this thread and since than I really like this feature: when I am on a cycle track besides a heavy street I switch to mute mode to not get annoyed by constant beeping - back on the street I activate it again to be warned by approaching vehicles from behind. Great feature! Thanks!

Is the radar supposed to be able to mute when paused or in ride only? I was on a ride and was cycling on the cycling path next to road and decided to mute the radar as it was not neede anymore. I decided to do this when stopping to the traffic lights after 50 m. Tapoed on the icon for at least 30 times and no change in tue radar bar. Then I got to move from the lights and had to manipulate it while riding and ta-da! The mute worked. Is this really designed without safery in mind?
Also: please, please, please do NOT add another "are you sure" confirmations and additional presses of different buttons (like ending the ride) to this function. Please! Accidentally muting radar (or ending a ride) cannot be such a problem. Or if it is then make sure there are at least 7 condirmation steps then to annoy everyone.
